"Yellowjackets" - Season 3 episode 7 review
Episode 7 of “Yellowjackets” is the craziest yet. The teen girls are dealing with their newfound “friends” in the wilderness as the adults are on a wild goose chase.
This post contains spoilers for all three seasons of “Yellowjackets.”
The first 10 minutes of episode seven introduce viewers to the two hikers and their wilderness guide, starting three days before their encounter with the girls.
Hannah (Ashley Sutton) and Edwin (Nelson Franklin) are the two explorers who stumbled upon the Yellowjackets at the end of episode six. It is revealed that they are herpetologists who are in the wilderness to research a rare species of frog.
It is also revealed to the audience that the mysterious screeching the girls have been hearing was these frogs all along.
Hannah and Edwin are joined by their guide Kodiak (Joel McHale) who seems to be all-knowing of the Canadian woods.
The flashback ends with the three campers stumbling upon the girls and Coach Ben’s severed head, which is where episode six left off.
Immediately, Edwin is whacked in the back of the head with an axe by Lottie (Courtney Eaton). Everyone is rightfully appalled, except for Shauna (Sophie Nélisse), who cracks a smile at the sight of a murder.
Leave it to Lottie to doom everyone.
Shauna truthers have been grasping at straws for a while now, but her reaction in episode seven was the last one. She is certifiably crazy.
Edwin’s death sends Hannah and Kodiak running and sends the girls on a hunt to get them back.
Some of the team is prioritizing rescue, but others want to eliminate witnesses of Ben’s feast, like Lottie and Shauna.
During the hunt, viewers see confirmation that the mysterious DAT tape was Hannah’s, and she recorded a message for her daughter that must have made its way back to the real world.
In the present day, Callie (Sarah Desjardins) is doing some research of her own after secretly recording a voice memo of the DAT tape and begins to question her mother’s morals.
Misty (Christina Ricci) crashes into Van (Lauren Ambrose) and Taissa’s (Tawny Cypress) hotel room to continue interrogating Tai on Lottie’s (Simone Kessell) death.
Tai lets it slip that Shauna (Melanie Lynskey) received a tape, something that Misty was not let in on.
The three women show up where Shauna and her family are staying to join her on her quest to find Hannah’s daughter in the present day.
During their drive, Walter (Elijah Woods) calls Misty to inform her about a new lead he got from Shauna’s DNA. They order Shauna to stop the car, yet she refuses until Van starts coughing up blood.
They take Van to the hospital where Tai has to reveal to her fellow teammates that Van has geriatric cancer. Misty and Shauna are waiting in the lobby when Misty outright accuses Shauna of what Walter told her.
Shauna promptly walks out and leaves her friends stranded at the hospital to face Hannah’s daughter herself.
This episode was just shock after shock after shock.
Back in the woods, Shauna and Natalie (Sophie Thatcher) finally get hold of Hannah while Akilah (Nia Sondaya) and Travis (Kevin Alves) get Kodiak.
The fate of these campers is unknown, but viewers will find out soon enough as “Yellowjackets” season 3 is just a few episodes away from closure.
