Women's Lacrosse Game of the Week: No. 2 Syracuse vs. No. 3 Boston College

By Kassandra Vasellas

This Thursday, the Syracuse Orange head to Massachusetts to take on the Boston College Eagles in the last game of the regular season.

Syracuse currently has a record of 12-3 and they are 5-1 when playing away. Boston College has the same record and they are 7-2 when playing at home.

The Orange has the overall record of 17-11 against the Eagles but the Eagles are on a four-game winning streak against Syracuse including last season’s national semifinal 8-7 win. The last few seasons have been very close games between these two teams as they always have a close record and make it a high-scoring game.

The key players in orange this season have been Emma Tyrell, Olivia Adamson and Kate Mashewske. Tyrell and Adamson both have 62 points which is the most on the team. Tyrell leads in goals with 49 in 15 games.

Adamson has 41 goals and 21 assists and she also has 10 free-position goals. Mashewske has played all 15 games and even though she isn’t on the score sheet, she is great at draws as she has 134.

Rachel Clark, Mckenna Davis and Kayla Martello are the players to watch for Boston College. Clark is the points leader for the Eagles as she has 67 with 55 goals and 12 assists. She also has zero fouls on the season.

Davis leads in assists with 49 and she also has 14 goals to go along with that. Martello has 13 free position shots and 7 free position goals. She follows Clark on the stat sheet in goals as she has 46.

The goalkeeper for The Orange is Delaney Sweitzer. Sweitzer has started in and played all 15 games. She has a save percentage of .413 with 93 saves and 132 goals against.

Shea Dolce is the goalkeeper for the Eagles. She has had 111 goals against with 128 saves to make a save percentage of .464.

Kayla Treanor is the head coach for Syracuse. After playing lacrosse at Syracuse in college, Treanor got the head coach position in 2021 where her first coaching win took place in the 2022 season opener. She played for the Orange in 2013-16 and then began her coaching career at Harvard.

She then moved to the coaching staff at Boston College where they advanced to the championship three times and claimed the national championship in 2021.

Treanor won many awards as an athlete at Syracuse and now looks to do the same as a coach and lead the team to many big victories.

The head coach for Boston College is Acacia Walker-Weinstein. She is in her twelfth season in this position with the Eagles.

Walker-Weinstein has led Boston College to its sixth straight Final Four in 2023 as well as the national title game, ACC regular-season title and ACC championship. She hopes to further this success and continue these streaks.

This looks to be a fun game to end the season with, but only one team can come out victorious.
