Women's Hockey Series of the Week: No. 1 Wisconsin vs. Boston College

By Carlin Whalen

Two undefeated teams will face-off, but only one will emerge victorious. One team might even be able to maintain their perfect record.

The 2-0 No. 1 Wisconsin Badgers are headed over to Massachusetts to take on the 1-0 Boston College Eagles in what appears to be a lopsided matchup.

The Badgers opened up the 2024-25 season with two large-margin wins over Lindenwood. In that series, they outscored their opponents 20-1 featuring 12 different goal scorers.

More specifically, juniors Lacey Eden and Marianne Picard lead the way with three goals each. Eden started the season off hot which opened up a chance to pass her 27-goal, 29-assist performance last year.

Picard, while not as dominant as Eden, had a career-high 22 points last season with six goals and 16 assists. She already scored half of her last year's goals in two games, so Picard set herself up for the chance to set a new personal record and be a crucial part of this offense.

With that explosive offense, Wisconsin shot the puck 115 times. They also had a stout defense that only allowed 26 shots throughout the series. The Badgers blocked an additional 15 shots attempted by the Eagles.

Currently, the team holds eight first-place rankings in the Western Collegiate College Association.

Boston College also opened their season on a strong note with a 5-1 victory against Stonehill College.

In that game, the Eagles put up 43 shots with each goal coming from someone new. Their defense held Stonehill College to just 18 total shots.

Boston College shared the net, giving both Bailey Callaway and Grace Campbell a chance to play.

In the first 30 minutes of the game, Campbell faced 12 total shots, only allowing one to find the back of the net.

Callaway continued Campbell’s strong start with a shutdown period and a half of her own. She faced only six shots during her time in the net and the rest of the team played a big part in that.

They kept the puck in the offensive zone for a lot of that time and played stellar defense.

The last time these two teams met, the Badgers topped the Eagles at home,12-2, which set a new record at LaBahn Arena. It was the most goals ever tallied while on home ice.

Overall, Wisconsin has a 14-0 record against Boston College, scoring 75 total goals on the team with an average of 5.36 per game. It’s safe to say Wisconsin will be the powerhouse team for this series.

These two squads are set to face off on Oct. 4 and 5 at 5 p.m. CT in their two-game series.
