Women's College Hockey Series of the Week: Yale vs. Princeton
Princeton will host Yale this Friday as this is expected to be a close matchup.
No. 14 Princeton is currently 2-0 with a series sweep over Robert Morris. Yale is ranked No. 5 and this will be its first official game of the season after they beat McGill 6-0 in an exhibition match.
When these teams faced off last season, the Bulldogs took a 3-1 win over the Tigers. Although Princeton lost last season, they lead the all-time series record 21-14-2.
The Bulldogs to watch this season are Jordan Ray, Elle Hartje and Catrina DiAntonio. Ray had 17 goals last season which was tied for first in the team. In just her freshman year, she had 42 points with 25 assists as well.
Hartje led the team last season in points as she had 52 and she also had 39 assists which was the most on the team. That is not all; she led the team in as she also had 44 blocks and a +/- of +38. DiAntonio had four game-winning goals last season as well as two power-play goals. She will be a sophomore this season looking to grow her numbers.
Sarah Fillier, Kate Monihan and Katherine Khramtsov are the players from Princeton to watch in this game. This season, Fillier has four points with two goals and two assists. She also currently has one power-play goal and one game-winning goal. Monihan currently leads the team with five blocks. Khramtsov also has four points with one goal and three assists. Along with her points, she also has a +/- of +3.
The goaltenders for Yale this season are Pia Dukaric, Mia Wendall and Anna Phillips. Dukaric was the main goaltender last season as she played in and started 33 games. She had a save percentage of .935 with 643 saves.
Wendell was a backup as she played in seven games and had 12 saves with one goal against her. Philips is a first-year student this season and will hopefully get to show her skills in goal.
Taylor Hyland and Uma Corniea are the goaltenders for the Tigers this season. Hyland started the first game and had two goals against and 13 saves. Corniea started in the second game where she earned her first shutout in her Princeton career as she faced 24 shots.
Mark Bolding is the head coach of the Bulldogs. He became coach in 2019 and since then he has been the first Yale coach to lead a women's team to a final four event. He has helped to lead this team to so much success and hopes to continue that this season.
The head coach for Princeton is Cara Morey. She is currently in her seventh season with the Tigers. With Morey, the team has won an Ivy League championship, its first ECAC tournament title, qualified for two NCAA quarterfinals and set the program single-season wins record. This will be a big season for the Tigers to continue to succeed with Morey.
This will be a great game to watch as Princeton looks to stay undefeated and Yale looks to start its season off with a win.
