Women's College Hockey Series of the Week: No. 15 Boston College vs. No. 13 Vermont

By Ethan Bell

No. 15 Boston College will head to Burlington, Vermont, to take on the No. 13 Catamounts in a top-15 matchup this weekend. The games will be on Friday night at 6 p.m. and Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.

The Eagles come into the series with a record of 6-5-1. This is a decent record, but it is lower than expected because of their struggles on the road. Away from home, their record is currently 3-4-0, which is something to keep in mind for this upcoming series.

In their last series, Boston College took on Maine and split the two games, losing the first game and taking the second game 4-2.

Vermont on the other hand comes into the series with a 5-3-1 record and they are 3-1-1 at Gutterson Fieldhouse.

In the Catamounts' last matchup against Holy Cross, Vermont lost by a score of 3-2 in overtime.

The bright spot in that game for the Catamounts was that they got a point for taking the game to overtime. The downside is they left two extra points out there against an inferior Holy Cross team.

Through the first 12 games, Boston College has two prolific goal scorers, Katie Pyne and Gaby Roy. The tandem has put up impressive numbers both having five goals and three assists for a combined 16 points.

In total, the Eagles have scored 30 goals, which ranks 19th in all of women’s college hockey.

The Catamounts have a prolific playmaker themselves. Senior forward Natálie Mlynková has six goals and five assists through just nine games, and she leads the team in points with 11.

Vermont has also been excellent defensively all season, but the main reason for their defensive success rests on the shoulders of their goaltender, Jessie McPherson.

McPherson has been stellar in the crease for the Catamounts posting a save percentage of .910, and she gives up a goals-against average of 2.36. In the eight games that she has started, she has only given up 19 goals.

Boston College has the same success as Vermont at the goalie position. Goaltender Grace Campbell has been superb this season. She has started in every game so far for the Eagles, and she has very impressive stats.

She posts a save percentage of .915 and has a goals-against average of 2.76. She ranks 34th in goalie statistics in all of women's college hockey.

Boston College leads the series against Vermont, holding a 32-4-4 record against them all time. The longest win streak for the Eagles was 25 games, but the Catamounts have been doing better as of late against the maroon and gold.
