“Waiting Room” - Phoebe Bridgers

I have been listening to a lot of melancholy music lately, and “Waiting Room” by Phoebe Bridgers never fails to make me emotional.

“Waiting Room” is genuinely gut-wrenching. If you want tears to stream down your face and to feel like your heart is being torn apart, listen to this song.

The most intense part of this song is the outro, where Bridgers sings “Know it’s for the better” 36 times in a row.

It’s like she was talking directly to me when she wrote this.

Another lyric that stirs my soul is when she sings “Wanna make you fall in love as hard as my poor parents’ teenage daughter / She’ll be the best you ever had if you let her.”

This song will always break my heart, but it’s so beautiful that I can never resist listening. -Sarah Gavlak

“Less Than Zero” - The Weeknd

I legit cannot get it out of my head.

“Less Than Zero” is off of “Dawn FM” which was released in 2022. It’s a slow, synth-pop song about The Weeknd having regrets towards the end of a relationship.

No matter what happened during the relationship and how he tried to fix it, he’ll always be “less than zero” to his lover.

I love this song’s beat, and The Weeknd sounds great.

Maybe it’s just because we’re on the road to Wrestlemania, but the Showcase of Immortals 39 theme has been on repeat for me. -Adrianna Gallucci

“Everybody Knows” - Sigrid

While rewatching some of the DCEU movies for my rank-it article, I rediscovered this song from the opening sequence of “Justice League,” and I have been listening to it non-stop.

Spoiler alert but the film begins with a slow cinematic sequence of society falling apart following the death of Superman in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” with this song narrating the events.

Taking it out of the context of the film, “Everybody Knows” tells a story on its own.

It begins with discussing how everything is against them before delving into why they believe that, as it is revealed they were cheated on and have a broken heart.

Everybody knows I will likely listen to this banger for the foreseeable future. -Ben Palillo
