CORVALLIS, Ore.- No.1 Penn State advanced to 3-0 on the season with a defiant 36-3 road victory over No. 18 Oregon State Friday night in front of a near-capacity showout in Gill Coliseum.

The tone was amped up to electric early on for the Nittany Lions, and was maintained till the end with four second-half tech falls.

The non-conference dual had the start to its energy from weight class 125 as unranked and undefeated true-freshman Braeden Davis took on ranked opponent No.13 Brandon Kaylor.

Davis held complete control of the match, holding Kaylor to only two points by the end of the second period.

With the start of the third Kaylor managed more than a one-point period, but was put to the side as Davis outshined his opponent taking the 11-6 win putting his team at an early 3-0 lead.

At 149 pounds, teammate and fellow true freshman Tyler Kasak took on No.11 Nash Singleton from Oregon State in what started off in what can be argued as the most boring or thrilling match of the night as both athletes sat at zero at the end of the first.

Kasak managed a single-point lead and held onto it for the rest of the second sitting a 1-0 lead.

The third period was the certifying factor as Kasak managed a third-period takedown despite Singleton managing to get a point on the board.

This gave Kasak the 4-1 win which raised the Nittany Lions lead to a team score of 13-0.

Penn State's one upset came at the 184 weight class as No.2 Bernie Truax was upset by Oregon State’s No.6 Trey Munoz.

Truax fell to an early takedown but held it to only those points for the remainder of the first.

The gap was closed to a one-point point differential, but that would not change moving into the third as Oregon State got the win as well as some team points following the 2-5 victory.

This match left Truax with an upset and his first loss of the season.

Penn State still led with a team score of 26-3.

Leading into a match that had seen three tech falls by his teammates since the half, No.1 ranked Greg Kerkvliet came into the 285 weight class ready to take on opponent No.12 Boone McDermott no differently.

Working the takedowns Kerkvliet went up early and never looked back.

Ending the first period, Kerkvliet led a confident 9-2 lead over McDermott from takedown central.

Kerkvliet's swift executions transitioned right into the second period, as he managed his sixth takedown of the match with twenty seconds remaining, landing him at a score of 18-5.

The job was quickly wrapped up in the third at the 5:17 mark as Kerkvliets quickly got his final takedown of the night, posting the 21-5 tech fall.

These were the final points to give the Nittany Lions their team victory of 36-3.

With nearly a perfect sweep Penn State will move on to open the Big 10 schedule, when they return home to host Indiana on Sunday, Jan. 14.
