Trump at the microphone

Trump court case update

By Hannah Neurohr

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In 2020, former President Donald Trump falsely claimed that the election was “stolen” by his opponent current President Joe Biden.

There has been a congressional investigation spanning over the course of several months and even an indictment that demonstrates the lengths the former president has taken in an attempt to overturn the election.

He knowingly advocated false claims of voter fraud and resorted to criminal activity in an attempt to cling to power. This information comes from an unsealed court filing on Wednesday and contained new evidence against Trump.

The most recent filing proves to be the most comprehensive view of what prosecutors plan to use to prove whether or not the case will reach a trial. It gives specific details related to Trump's alleged scheme, including his actions when supporters rioted at the US Capitol building on January 6, 2021.

In addition to those details, it also outlines the efforts of Mike Pence, the vice-president at the time, to talk him down.

Judge Chutkan, the U.S. District Judge will decide which of Trump’s acts are official conduct for which he is immune from prosecution and which are considered to be private crimes on which the case can proceed.

The violent insurrection continues to arise in the political arena, the most recent comment on Tuesday night during the vice presidential debate. Ohio Sen. JD Vance would not answer whether or not Trump had lost the 2020 race.

This is the fourth criminal case Trump has faced since his impeachment in 2020 and he believes he will win this case. A trial date has not been set.
