Top Five Moments Five of Super Bowl LIX

By Charles Wesolowski

Super Bowl LIX might not have been the most exciting game to end the season, that is unless you were rooting for Philadelphia. The Eagles stopped the threepeat from happening for the Kansas City Chiefs, putting the end to potential history and winning their first championship since 2018.

With the season now officially over, let us take a look at the top five moments from this year's big game, which included some memorable moments despite the score of the actual game.

No. 5 Jake Elliott Perfection

Eagles kicker Jake Elliott did not miss a single field goal during the biggest game of the season, nailing all four extra points and each of his four field goals, with the longest coming from 50 yards out. Elliott has been shaky in the past, only having a 77.8% field goal percentage this season. In a game where the Eagles played near-perfect football, it was nice to watch the struggling kicker perform as well.

No. 4 Sack Party for the Birds

The Philadelphia defense stepped up and brought down Kansas City star quarterback Patrick Mahomes six times behind the line of scrimmage. The sacks played a huge role in the result of the game, as the Chiefs were forced to punt the ball six times while the Eagles only had to twice. One of the biggest sacks came from defensive tackle Milton Williams, when he forced Mahomes to fumble the ball on one of his two sacks in the game, getting the ball back for his team.

With the Birds controlling the ball for most of the game, it allowed them to get ahead early and never look back on their way to hoisting the Lombardi trophy.

No. 3 Kendrick Lamar and SZA

Although Kendrick Lamar had just performed at the Super Bowl in 2022, the rap artist came back with a unique and exciting performance. From nods to his active feud with Drake to having Serena Williams as a dancer, Lamar brought the heat to New Orleans and provided a halftime show to remember.

No. 2 Cooper DeJean Pick Six

Rookie cornerback Cooper DeJean is in fact not a safety, locking down the Chiefs and scoring a touchdown in his first-ever Super Bowl. Out of Iowa, the city of Philadelphia had high hopes for DeJean. Nobody could have imagined that it would be during the biggest game of the year, as well as his birthday when he would have his biggest moment.

No. 1 Chiefs Dynasty Hopes Crumbling

Mahomes along with the rest of the Chiefs clearly did not play the game they wanted to. They had an abysmal first half where they scored zero points. They brought things back in the end against the Eagles bench, but by then it was far too late. For the majority of football fans, this was the result they wanted, as it marked the downfall of Mahomes who has been portrayed as the villain over the past couple of seasons.
