McDavid on the ice

Top five Connor McDavid goals

By Andrew Matz

Connor McDavid just became the fourth fastest player in NHL history to score 1000 points. He did this at the age of 27. McDavid is currently in his tenth season in the NHL.

Over the time since he was drafted in 2015, he has scored some of the nicest goals we have seen.

From dangling around defenders to just skating past everyone, McDavid's skill has always been on full display.

Let’s take a look at my top five goals that McDavid has scored in his NHL career.

5. Between the legs vs. Stars

At five I have a move that has become standard in the NHL. There was a time when we didn’t see this move as much but now we see it all the time. This is the between-the-legs move.

After a Dallas Stars turnover, Connor McDavid got a pass from Leon Draisaitl in the slot and took it down toward the goal line.

With no angle to shoot McDavid put the puck between his legs and put a shot on net. It went in top-shelf over the goalie’s blocker for a great goal.

4. McDavid skates through the Jet's defense

My pick for number four is something that we see a lot from McDavid.

With his team down by one goal with under six minutes left in the third, McDavid put the team on his back and took the puck coast-to-coast.

In that process, he would skate through three Jet's defenders, before burying the puck in the top corner for an outstanding goal.

3. McDavid destroys the Blue Jackets

Taking the third spot is one of the best displays of handles we have seen in hockey.

In a tie game against the Columbus Blue Jackets, McDavid took the puck in the neutral zone. He then proceeded to skate into two defenders who were closing the gap on him. They were most certainly going to take the puck.

Defying anything we had seen before, McDavid toe-dragged around the defenders and took the puck to the net. He then made a filthy forehand to backhand move creating an open net he would slide the puck into.

2. McDavid’s 1000th point

As much as I wanted to put this at one because it is such a huge milestone, there is still one goal that is just so good I couldn’t.

On Nov. 14, 2024, McDavid would become the fourth fastest player in NHL history to reach 1000 points, in a game against the Nashville Predators.

Early in the second period, the Oilers broke into the offensive zone on a two-on-one. Draisaitl passed the puck across to McDavid who one-timed the puck into the back of the net for 1000 points.

While I can admit this was a simple play this goal took the No. 2 spot because of the significance of it.

1. McDavid skates through the Rangers

My top pick for McDavid's best goals is one of his most well-known.

While the Oilers were losing by one goal with only three minutes left in the third period against the Rangers, McDavid grabbed the puck in the neutral zone.

After cutting to the middle, he would not just skate but dangle through the four Rangers on the ice. He’d finish the play by making the Ranger's goalie go to the other side of the net leaving it wide open for himself.

This is not only McDavid’s best goal, but it is one of the best goals we have seen in hockey.

McDavid is the best player in the world at the moment, and we will continue to see him score amazing goals.
