Top 5 Worst Super Bowls
With the Eagles hammering the Chiefs in the Super Bowl and another NFL season over, it’s time to reflect on the top five worst and most boring Super Bowls in its 59 year history.
Number 5, Super Bowl LIX: Eagles 40, Chiefs 22
This Super Bowl was just boring even before it started.
Kansas City has played in the game in five of the last six years and has just grown tremendously stale.
Philadelphia took their second drive of the game 69 yards for the opening touchdown and really never looked back.
When the Eagles were up 10-0 in the second, Mahomes threw a crucial pick six to Cooper DeJean to make it a 17 point game.
The Chiefs got the ball back and Mahomes threw another pick immediately and this was when we got that feeling it was actually over.
Second half came along and the Chiefs scored some meaningless garbage time points and the rest was history.
From a viewer standpoint, this game was just so boring unless you were an Eagles fan I guess.
This one takes the fifth spot.
Number 4, Super Bowl XXVII: Cowboys 52, Bills 17
I guess this one could be questioned due to the fact that I wasn’t even alive but this was an absolute snooze fest unless you’re a Cowboys fan.
This was Buffalo's third of four Super Bowl appearances in a row and the result didn’t change much.
The Cowboys scored 35 points off of a Super Bowl record nine Bills turnovers.
Buffalo Quarterback Jim Kelly went down with injury in the second quarter and was replaced with Frank Reich, who threw a 40 yard touchdown on the final play of the third quarter.
The Cowboys would then answer with three touchdowns in the fourth quarter and won the game 52-17 with Troy Aikman winning Super Bowl MVP.
This game was at least a two possession game at one point, but it became an absolute blowout so it earned the fourth spot.
Number 3, Super Bowl LIII: Patriots 13, Rams 3
The one thing that makes this Super Bowl different from the others seen on this list is it was at least a close game.
Coming into this game, everybody thought it was going to be an offensive shootout, but the complete opposite happened.
You might as well have taken a two hour nap during this game.
Only three points were scored in the whole first half with a field goal by Stephen Gostkowski.
The game was then even at three with a 3rd quarter field goal by LA.
The only thing you really need to know about this game was Tom Brady’s two perfectly thrown balls to Rob Gronkowski to set up Sony Michel’s two yard rushing score.
New England would then tack on three more to go up by ten and eventually win their record-tying sixth Super Bowl in the lowest scoring Bowl ever.
Number 2, Super Bowl XXXV: Ravens 34, Giants 7
Back in 2001, the Baltimore Ravens absolutely crushed the New York Giants for their first championship in franchise history.
This game was basically known for the dominance of the Ravens defense. They didn’t allow a single point as the Giants only score came on a lousy kick return.
Giants Quarterback Kerry Collins was sacked four times as well as picked off four times in a disastrous performance.
The New York offense crossed midfield only once the whole game; yea, you could see why this was terrible for the viewers.
To add to boredom, the Ravens offense only had 250 yards of total offense themselves.
This one was terrible but not as bad as what’s to come.
Number 1, Super Bowl XLVIII: Seahawks 43, Broncos 8
This is obviously number one on this list.
From the get go this game was over with the botched snap over the head of Peyton Manning for a Seattle safety.
The Seahawks would continue to put points up and before we knew it, the score was 36 zip.
Peyton Manning doesn’t often get shown up, but the Legion of Boom said otherwise and tore the entire game apart.
Denver’s high scoring offense was absolutely no match for Seattle’s defense and clearly it showed.
