Schwarber hitting a baseball

Top 5 best sounds in sports

By Carson Schuler

Honorable mention: catching a baseball

While I might personally believe this belongs inside the top five, I have to show some love to other sports, because you probably already know where I'm going for the No. 1 spot.

No. 5 Buzzer-beater swish

Basketball as a sport probably has the best sounds in totality, from the sound of players running down the court and cutting back and forth, dribbling the ball or slam dunks and blocks. Those are all great sounds, but a swish and a buzzer-beater on the same play are the best in basketball.

No. 4: F1 cars

I love race cars of all kinds, but having to decide which one sounds the best, it seems obvious to me that F1 clears. I can’t comprehend how someone can replicate those sounds without any editing, and this just might be one of the most underrated talents known to man.

No. 3: Bowling a strike

Maybe I put this too high up the list, but it just sounds so nice. Bowling a strike is already satisfying as is, but the sound it makes puts it over the other candidates and into the top three. Plus, when you're the one to make that sound happen, it makes it so much sweeter.

No. 2: Bar down goal in hockey

I would definitely argue that in lacrosse and soccer, the sight of a bar-down goal is just as satisfying, but this list is strictly ranked based on sound, and something about the puck just sounds wonderful. I can't put a pin into why exactly that is, but I think it has to do with the shape of the puck because it just doesn't sound the same in lacrosse.

No. 1: The crack of the baseball bat

In my opinion, there is no sound quite like the crack of the bat. Whether it’s a “Schwarbomb”, “Yordbomb” or “Judgian Blast”, home runs just sound better. That sound hasn't really changed much throughout history, and I hope it never does. In my opinion, there is no topping America's pastime when it comes to the most satisfying sounds in sports.

I’d love to hear where you disagree with me on this list, what sounds did I miss?
