Top 10 soccer celebrations

By Charles Wesolowski

In the history of soccer, or football if you are not American, there have been countless iconic goal celebrations. From classics that have been repeated by many to players with their own signature move, here are the top ten celebrations we have seen out on the pitch.

No. 10: Knee slide

The knee slide is the most iconic soccer celebration in history, being a go to for many after scoring a big goal. The move has been done by many, with this trend most likely continuing for as long as the sport is played.

No. 9: Noni Madueke point

Chelsea right winger Madueke has done his own signature celebration after many goals. The calm point to himself does a great job of not being too flashy and just being a calm moment of him in the spotlight.

No. 8: Quincy Promes mask

Despite his off-field antics, Promes has an iconic move after scoring a goal. We have even seen different variations outside of the gesture he normally does with his hand, utilizing a real mask as a prop. It is always cool when someone has their own unique celebration and this is a prime example of that.

No. 7: James Maddison playing darts

The Tottenham midfielder is not the only one to do this celebration, but is the first person who comes to mind with this entertaining celebration. What makes this one even more enjoyable is the fact that Maddison does it with his teammates as well, making it even more exciting to watch when others get involved after a team effort goal.

No. 6: Viktor Gyokeres mask

The second mask style celebration on this list, but for me this one gets the edge. The interlocking of the hands over the mouth provides something both cool and slightly terrifying. So unique and so cool to see time and time again.

No. 5: Messi shirt hold

Of course, one of, if not the best, soccer players of all time has an iconic celebration. The image of Messi holding up his Barcelona jersey in front of the Real Madrid fans is one of the coldest moments in the history of sports and is a beautiful sight to behold.

No. 4: Christian Pulisic tiger tattoo

The man many call Captain America has a very interesting and unique celebration. The celebration uses the tattoo of the eyes of a tiger on his forearm, with him covering his own eyes and replacing them with the ones from his tattoo. The creativity behind this is off the charts and is something that I wish we would see more of in the world of sports.

No. 3: Marcus Rashford thinker

Another celebration that does a great job of being loud and exciting by not doing too much. When Rashford runs to the corner and closes his eyes and points to his head after scoring a beauty of a goal, it is a sight to see and something I hope we get to see more of during his time at Aston Villa.

No. 2: Cristiano Ronaldo “Siuuu”

Probably the most iconic celebration in soccer, potentially all of sports. There is nothing like hearing the crowd all get behind him in unison, making it feel like it is they celebrating as much as him. There is a chance this will continue to live on even after Ronaldo retires, seeing as he has been one of the most influential players in sports history.

No. 1: Cole Palmer being cold

One of the most exciting players to watch today has one of the most brilliant celebrations in the game today and of all time. It truly is cold when Palmer brings out his signature celebration with him brushing his arms, with the plus that it even gives him a phenomenal nickname to go along with his amazing skill on the pitch.

Celebrations are part of what makes sports so much fun to watch. We see new things each and every day, and soccer has been a sport where players have been expressive for quite some time. There really is no feeling like watching a player on your team celebrate a huge goal. The only downside is when you are on the wrong side of the celebration.
