Top 10 Mascots in the NHL

By Giustino Racchini

The real entertainers at NHL arenas, the mascots, have taken their game to another level. Although it is hard to rank the Top 10 in the NHL, here is my list of the Top 10 mascots in the NHL.

10. Bernie the St. Bernard, Colorado Avalanche

One of the great symbolizers of the Mountain region is a trusty dog as a sidekick. Bernie has been through much success with the Avalanche including two Stanley Cup wins.

9. Blades the Bear, Boston Bruins

One of the more synonymous mascots in all of Boston sports, considering this is the best one. Blades is seen causing havoc all across the arena, and the design of the mascot is also crisp.

All Blades needs now is to see Stanley Cups won instead of lost for the Bruins.

8. Bailey the Lion, LA Kings

I must pose the question here, who is the king of the jungle? The lion, obviously. The genius design by the King's ownership shows an incredible mascot of the king of the jungle.

In the big city of LA, Bailey is the king of the entertainment world, at least at Crypto.com Arena.

7. Stanley C. Panther, Florida Panthers

If you have ever wondered why Stanley where’s the number 00, it’s in the name. The Panthers have no Stanley Cups, and the Panthers mascot will continue to don the number 00 until they win one.

Good news for Stanley C, the Panthers are one of the best teams in the league, with a mascot that represents the team’s name.

6. Louie, St Louis Blues:

One of the most aesthetically pleasing mascots is the Blues Polar Bear, who is also blue. Louie is a mainstay in the mascot world and an icon in Saint Louis.

After a Stanley Cup win in 2019, Louie and his Blues are more successful than ever, and the future is always, blue?

5. Mick E. Moose, Winnipeg Jets

What better way to represent the heart of Canada, than with its most common animal, the moose? Mick E, has been a tremendous addition to the Jets fan base over the years.

Although he is not the top Canadian mascot, I would be remiss to leave out the best-designed mascot on this entire list. You heard me correctly, the BEST.

4. Gritty, Philadelphia Flyers

When this is staring at you, what is your next move? This is in my opinion the perfect mascot for Philadelphia sports, because of how oddly unique Gritty is.

Although he is not my personal number-one favorite, Gritty is already iconic enough to be considered one of the greatest mascots in NHL history.

3. IceBerg, Pittsburgh Penguins

You can call me biased, but as a Penguins fan, IceBerg is such an icon as a mascot across all sports. His fan engagement is unmatched anywhere else.

IceBerg made his debut 30 years ago and the Penguins have since hoisted three Stanley Cups in that time frame. A true legend.

2. Wild Wing, Anaheim Ducks

Going back to the days of the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, Wild Wing has been a mainstay. Although his green clothes switched to black and orange, Wild Wing is still iconic.

The face with the goalie mask along with the goalie pads he wears, makes the outfit just as iconic to go along with the literal Disney movie magic that created him.

1. Youppi, Montreal Canadiens

Youppi has worked two jobs as a mascot in the past, enough said. Back when the Expos played in the MLB, Youppi had to work overtime, which makes him the undisputed goat.

The beard features along with the orange body, make him the perfect mascot for the sport of hockey, and for the Canadiens
