Jennifer Hudson makes a debut in the holiday music scene with her Christmas album, "The Gift of Love," released Oct. 18, 2024. The 15-track collection features Hudson's unique interpretations of familiar Christmas classics, with her powerful and captivating voice delighting fans.

Initially, there was surprise surrounding the announcement of the new album, given that Jennifer Hudson has been relatively quiet in recent years. There has been little to no news about her in public and she doesn't drop music frequently. Although her performance in “Dreamgirls” illustrates how well-rounded she is as an entertainer.

The release of a Christmas album is a brilliant move, as Hudson has an iconic voice that works well with the genre, something that many artists attempt but do not always achieve.

The album opens with "Hallelujah" where Hudson adds a gospel-inspired warmth that sets the tone for the entire album. Many of her fans believe that "Jesus is the reason for the season," and this song resonates with that belief. The placement of the track as the album's first song emphasizes its significance for her audience, creating a layer of meaning to their listening experience.

"Winter Wonderland," captures the joy and magic of the season with a modern yet nostalgic sound. This familiar melody is paired with a jazzy vibe. Hudson provides a creative twist on "Carol Of The Bells" making the song with a steady, head nodding rhythm.

Original compositions such as "Find The Love" and "Make It To Christmas" highlight her songwriting skills, with passionate lyrics and harmonious melodies.

Adding her original songs to the album presents the potential for new Christmas classics, possibly allowing some of the older, overplayed holiday tracks to take a break during this upcoming season.

The track "Santa For Someone" adds a whimsical, fun element to the album, capturing the playful sense of the holiday. Meanwhile, "Little Drummer Boy" demonstrates her ability to blend traditional instruments with modern beats.

"Almost Christmas" featuring Common, mixes the holiday spirit with contemporary R&B and has a sweet message of hope and joy.

Another gospel song "Go Tell It On The Mountain," adds her own distinctive flair to a classic. This song is a staple in black church services, especially during the Christmas season.

Her voice truly shines on this song, layered with the sound of a powerful choir. The track shows her ability to put her personal spin on traditional hymns while maintaining their timelessness.

The album closes with "Auld Lang Syne" which means times long past or for the sake of old times, a fitting finale that reflects on nostalgia and new beginnings.

Jennifer Hudson's "The Gift Of Love" highlights her enduring talent and is a perfect addition to any holiday music collection, giving a fresh perspective on seasonal favorites while introducing original tracks bound to become new classics.
