Singles Round Up: Oct. 28

Singles Round Up – The Arts and Entertainment Department takes a look at some of the recently released singles from the past week.

"Heart Of A Woman" - Summer Walker
Summer Walker is back by popular demand.
"Heart of a Woman" was released Friday, October 25th after being initially teased by Walker on social media. She rarely disappoints her fans and needless to say, she surpassed expectations.
Walker continues her signature R&B, 90’s flair with deep and relatable lyrics. It’s hard not to rock side to side while listening. The beat is smooth, the instrumentals are soulful and her voice is so enticing.
The song explores the difficulties of handling an unhealthy relationship and the internal struggle of forgiving a man. It questions self-worth and the challenge of contemplating whether to stay in the relationship.
The "Heart of a Woman" is portrayed as a deep love that can save any man, even when he appears lost. In the song, the "Heart of a Woman" symbolizes the significance of a woman's love, comparable to a mother's affection.
The lyric video features Serena Page and Kordell Beckham, winners of the last season of "Love Island USA," a big money move for marketing and audience engagement. They are known as the iconic couple of the year, with people worldwide even dressing up as them for Halloween.
Overall, Summer Walker definitely delivered for her fans and hyped up the album “Finally Over It” release anticipated to drop this year.

“Aquamarine” - Addison Rae
From TikTok star to ultra pop star, Addison Rae proves she is a force to be reckoned with, following the release of her new single, “Aquamarine.”
She started making music in 2021 but has recently become a more popular artist because of her several collaborations with electronic-pop artist Charli XCX.
Rae’s message in the song is discovering who you are and what you want to do with your life, singing, “The world is my oyster,” and “I’m dancing in my own reflection.”
She is heavily influenced by Madonna, referencing her 1998 album, “Ray of Light,” as well as the film “Aquamarine,” in which two girls learn the existence of mermaids.
The heart of the track lies in the production. There are electronic synths, a groovy house beat and eerie vocals that make it an unbelievable listening experience.
Combining these various elements forms a unique melody that sounds like it is coming from underwater.
The music video only amplifies the aquatic and unapologetic aesthetic depicted in the song. Rae pulls from fashion icons like Brigitte Bardot and Jane Birkin to give an ethereal and carefree personality to her outfits.
“Aquamarine” is only the beginning of Rae’s rise to fame and high artistry, and many cannot wait to see what is next. - Allison Curley
