Singles Round Up: Oct. 22
Singles Round Up – The Arts and Entertainment Department takes a look at some of the recently released singles from the past week.
“Suburban House” - Holly Macve ft. Lana Del Rey
Holly Macve, mostly known for her country and yodeling work, flipped the script this past week with her single, “Suburban House,” featuring Lana Del Rey.
In classic Del Rey fashion, the ballad track circles around a story of a scorned woman waiting in said suburban house while her husband assumedly is out having affairs.
Unlike the barely-there feature Del Rey had on Taylor Swift’s "Snow On The Beach," Macave allows Del Rey to have the benefit of a true duet, even adding a call-and-response verse toward the end.
The instrumental never moves past the slow, heartfelt piano tune it opens with. There is some build in the middle into the last verse, but it never breaks through.
This change in Macve’s sound is surprising but well done. Her voice pairs well with Del Rey’s and together the two of them deliver an aching love song devoid of any of Macve’s former country roots. – Megan Kelby
"TOO MUCH" The Kid Laroi featuring Jungkook and Central Cee
Everyone’s favorite white rapper, Charlton Kenneth Jeffrey Howard, is back at it again. To many, he goes by The Kid Laroi, which is a real shame with a name like Charlton.
His new single “TOO MUCH” features Jungkook and Central Cee.
The song is catchy and upbeat, it has a very similar vibe to The Kid Laroi’s song “STAY” featuring Justin Bieber. This is most definitely due to the fact that Justin Bieber helped create this song.
Jungkook's voice meshes well with the Kid Laroi’s.
This song does not offer anything new or different for the Kid Laroi, but will likely receive a good amount of attention due to it featuring a KPOP star.
It's a good song but nothing special. - Savannah Swartz
