Singles Round Up: April 1

Singles Round Up – The Arts and Entertainment Department takes a look at some of the recently released singles from the past week.

“Next Semester” - twenty one pilots
twenty one pilots found fame, in 2015, through their album, “Blurryface.” The band originally had four members, however, only two remain: Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun.
This new single, “Next Semester” follows the release of “Overcompensate” both of which will be featured on their sixth studio album, “Clancy.”
To start, Joseph’s voice remains idiosyncratic. His vocals are simply unmatched, yet the skill seems to take no effort.
Additionally, the song production was done really well. It’s very understated using only a few instruments including a guitar and drum kit.
As for the lyrics, they are pretty dark. The chorus contains the lines, “I prayed those lights would take me home/Then I heard ‘Hey, kid get out of the road!”
In the context of the song, the moral seems to be needing to start fresh, but also reliving the worst moment of their lives.
Overall, the song was superb. While a little repetitive, the production and message was definitely intriguing.
To hear twenty one pilots live, join them on The Clancy World Tour or listen to them on any music streaming service.
