“Sex Lives of College Girls” - Season 3, Episode 4 Review

By Madison Rush

Episode 4 of “The Sex Lives of College Girls” offers a refreshing change of pace. While it doesn’t quite reach the heights of the series’ best moments, it marks the first time season three hints at recapturing the show’s original magic in a fresh way.

This episode gives the audience a clearer idea of the potential storylines the girls will be facing this season while maintaining the hilarious comedic moments.

Whitney’s (Alyah Chanelle Scott) journey this episode stands out as a realistic depiction of the challenges college athletes face while balancing academics, sports, friendships, and relationships.

Her realization, prompted by Isaiah (Devin Craig), that she might be dealing with anxiety is a poignant moment. If the series continues to explore this arc, it has the potential to become one of the season’s most impactful storylines. All the while, Isaiah, as a character, continues to show the audience who he is and complements Whitney beautifully.

Kimberly (Pauline Chalamet) has less to do in this episode, but she still delivers the standout comedic moment with her line about deleting an old, cringe-worthy photo, "If I want to be a Supreme Court justice, I have to make sure that my record is squeaky clean. Which is why I am also deleting this photo of me from 2017 captioned, ‘Me gusta Cinco de Mayo.’ Like, what were you thinking, younger Kimberly? That is not your holiday to gusta!”

Despite Kimberly’s humor, her relationship with Eli (Michael Provost) is showing red flags. His lack of concern when Kimberly gets high at her first rave and wanders off is concerning, and it may be time for her to reevaluate the relationship.

The dynamic between Kimberly and Lila (Ilia Isorelýs Paulino) continues to be a highlight. Their disagreements over the delivery robots provide plenty of laughs while showcasing their wildly different personalities. Yet, their chemistry makes the unlikely friendship work.

Lila’s warning to Kimberly about being unprepared for a rave is ignored, leading to humorous but predictable consequences and showcasing how good of a friend Lila is.

Bela (Amrit Kaur) steals the show with her hilarious encounter with a furry—a moment that might be the most unserious in the series to date. However, the episode takes a more heartfelt turn as Arvid (Nabeel Muscatwalla) confesses he broke up with his girlfriend and that Bela’s harboring crush on him could finally lead to a happy ending.

The introduction of Kacey (Gracie Lawrence) continues to be a strong addition to the cast. Letting the lead singer of the band, Lawrence showcase her incredible singing talents adds a memorable touch to the episode. Meanwhile, the budding chemistry between Kacey and Cooper (Roby Attal) is undeniable, leaving fans eagerly anticipating how this storyline will unfold.

This episode also earns points for finally seeing some theater kid representation in this show—it’s about time.

Overall, this newest installment of “The Sex Lives of College Girls” balances humor, heart, and fresh dynamics, offering a glimpse of what the series can still achieve as it evolves.
