SEC: Best postgame celebrations
This past weekend throughout college football brought us some memorable moments, especially the postgame celebrations in the SEC. Two teams were fined for the actions of their fans after major upset victories.
There have been many instances in college football where fans have caused havoc and the SEC faithful has provided a lot of that over the years.
These are the four best postgame celebrations in SEC history.
No. 4: Tennessee at Georgia (2016)
This is one of my personal favorites. Tennessee was down 17-0 in this game and also 24-14 in the third quarter to Georgia.
The Vols came back to take a 28-24 lead late in the fourth quarter before Georgia went 81 yards in 57 seconds to take the lead back with 10 seconds left.
Tennessee got the ball back and basically just needed to throw up a prayer and that is exactly what they did. Quarterback Josh Dobbs heaved one up into the endzone for Jauan Jennings to come down with the game-winner.
This postgame celebration was unbelievable. The stunned silence of the crowd and the Volunteer players all running onto the field and jumping up and down was great. My favorite was head coach Butch Jones’ reaction where he dropped to a knee and put his face right into his palms.
No. 3: Alabama at Auburn (2013)
We all know this game as the “Kick Six” and everything about the Iron Bowl is awesome especially when it's played at Jordan-Hare. There's a special magic in the air at that place and certainly on that November night in 2013.
Chris Davis returned a missed Alabama 57-yard field goal for a touchdown to lift No. 4 Auburn over No. 1 Alabama 34-28. When Davis crossed the goal line it was like the world stood still.
The Auburn fans came pouring onto the field as Saban was in disbelief alongside the Alabama fans who were in attendance. This is definitely a top postgame celebration in CFB history with all the fans and players' reactions alone.
No. 2: Alabama at Vanderbilt (2024)
The celebration was on in Nashville following Vanderbilt’s shocking 40-35 win over No. 1 Alabama this past Saturday. All the fans stormed the field and went straight towards bringing down the goalpost.
Not only was Vandy fans' priority to tear down the goal post, but the end goal was to walk the uprights out of the stadium and head towards Broadway Street in downtown Nashville.
After making it through downtown Nashville, the goalpost finally ended up in the Cumberland River with everyone surrounding it and yelling. Vanderbilt was also fined 100K for this incident by the SEC.
This is definitely one of the most epic celebrations I have ever seen and it was well deserved as Vanderbilt earned its first-ever win against a top-five program.
No. 1: Alabama at Tennessee (2022)
When Tennessee beat Alabama in an absolute thriller in 2022, 52-49, fans stormed the field and wasted no time tearing down the goalpost.
This victory marked Tennessee’s first win over Alabama since 2006. The goalposts suddenly disappeared minutes after the fans had been on the field.
The goalpost was headed up the stairs and out of Neyland Stadium, onto the streets of Knoxville as people chanted and screamed while riding on top of the goalposts. The fans eventually ended up by the Tennessee River and threw the goalpost into the water.
This game was insane and the events that happened after the game are probably some of the most memorable things in college football history. This postgame celebration has to be No. 1.
