Russia-Ukraine War Update: Oct. 29
Russian President Vladimir Putin closed a summit attended by leaders or representatives of 36 countries. The three-day summit was held in the city of Kazan.
On top of this, Russian lawmakers last Thursday are thought to have come to an agreement with North Korea envisioning military assistance, a move that comes as the U.S. confirmed the deployment of 3,000 North Korean troops to Russia, and now has insight into this number being as high as 10,000.
Back in June, Russia asked whether North Korean troops could fight alongside Russian forces in Ukraine under a previously made pact, Putin said there was no need for that but now has also announced for the first time that Russia could provide weapons to Pyongyang.
Observers said that in exchange for military support Moscow could share sophisticated weapons technologies with Pyongyang to help improve their missile and satellite capabilities for personal and international uses.
Nato has also now come out and publicly acknowledged that there are North Korean troops amongst Russian groups deployed within Ukraine.
Nothing more has come of this so far, but the Nato chief has said the deployment shows "significant escalation" and a "dangerous expansion" of the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.
