Butker in SB LVII

Revisiting Super Bowl LVII

By Massimo Buonagurio

The most anticipated football game of the entire year is upon us. Almost all of America will either be in New Orleans or getting together to watch the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Philadelphia Eagles at Super Bowl LIX.

The Kansas City Chiefs will look to make history and go for their third straight Super Bowl. But, how did we get here? Well, it all started a couple of years ago with Super Bowl LVII.

Both the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles were coming off of massive conference championship wins with the Eagles beating the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs beating the runner-ups of the previous year's Super Bowl, the Cincinnati Bengals.

This was a very hyped matchup as Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes would be playing in his third Super Bowl in such a short time in his career while Jalen Hurts would be playing in his first.

The last time that both of these teams had made a Super Bowl was against the same quarterback, Tom Brady.

The Philadelphia Eagles were able to get the win in Super Bowl LII when Brady played for the New England Patriots Patriots, but the Kansas City Chiefs came up short and lost to Tom Brady while he was on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

And just like those matchups, Super Bowl LVII did not disappoint.

The game started with both the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles scoring touchdowns making the first quarter tied up at seven apiece.

The second quarter, however, was much better for them as they put up 17 and secured the lead at half as the Kansas City Chiefs scored a singular touchdown once again.

If the Kansas City Chiefs won to overcome the Eagles’ 10 point lead at the half. They would need to come up big in the last two-quarters of the game.

But, it wasn’t looking good for the Chiefs as they scored yet another seven points in a third consecutive quarter.

All the Philadelphia Eagles needed to do was lockdown on defense and score some more points in order to secure the win.

However, it wasn’t the Philadelphia Eagles' night as the Kansas City Chiefs would score 17 in the fourth quarter and would clinch Super Bowl LVII with a late field goal from Harrison Butker.

This win from the Kansas City Chiefs was just the start of their dynasty. Super Bowl LVIII was no different as the Kansas City Chiefs took on the San Francisco 49ers.

Just like they did a couple of years earlier, the Chiefs beat the 49ers in the Super Bowl, winning in overtime and winning back-to-back Super Bowls.

While this year hasn’t been Patrick Mahomes’ best, his playoff experience has been no match for the rest of the AFC and will look to win a third straight this Sunday.

However, the Philadelphia Eagles have been very impressive so far this year, especially with the addition of running back Saquon Barkley.

While the names and logos of these two teams are the same as they were in Super Bowl LVII, both teams and lineups are completely different and we’re in for a completely different matchup than we saw two years ago.
