"Problématique" - Kim Petras Album Review
Is Kim Petras problematic? Hard to say, but apparently she thinks so.
“Problématique” is the singer's new album, but it's not new at all. Officially this is Petras’ second studio album, but was supposed to be her first album before a major leak of the songs in 2022. The album ended up being pushed back and was officially released on streaming platforms on September 18, 2023.
The album features 10 songs and about half of them are good. Honestly, almost exactly every other song is good.
The title track starts off the setlist in a special way. It is a catchy song with a pop-disco feel.
Throughout the entire album, but especially in this song, her lyrics offer nothing special. Her songs all have very simple rhymes but they get the job done. The songs are catchy and that is all that matters. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it, and she doesn’t.
One of her best lyrics is “Got the cake, Marie Antoinette, yeah." To say the least, she is iconic.
The best songs off this album are “Je T’Adore," “Born Again” and “Confession." They are all upbeat and sound similar to other artists that are popular at the moment. Her style at the moment fits in with the style of Doja Cat or Dua Lipa.
Every song sounds very similar to the last and there is not much to distinguish each song from the rest.
The song that stands out the most is “All She Wants” which features the ever-talented Paris Hilton. This collaboration is just incredible, two people who are both famous and no one is sure why.
Hilton is most definitely not a singer in any capacity and delivers her verse accordingly. She doesn’t sing, she just says the lyrics, which are just a mash-up mess of rich people's nouns. For example, Teslas, Tiffany, Cartier, you know, the usual.
She is so talented and honestly carries this song on her million-dollar back.
“Treat Me Like a Ho” is a song that fits Petras’ raunchy vibe but honestly sucks. This song wants to be like every Nikki Minaj song but does not hit the mark.
Overall, this album is not really original in any capacity. The lyrics are nothing new or unique and the melodies are like every other autotune song on TikTok.
There is nothing that stands out besides this album’s clownability.
Rating: 5/10
Favorite song: “Je T’Adore”
