UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – PSU Votes works diligently to have all students informed, aware and well-briefed when state and national elections occur.

On Tuesday, Nov. 7, the state of Pennsylvania will hold its Municipal Elections for 2023. The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. On this year’s ballot, because it is an odd-numbered year, the November elections are referred to as the Municipal Elections and do not include federal or state office on the ballot.

PSU Votes, a Penn State non-partisan group, encourages educating voters in the Penn State community. On Tuesday, the group was set up in the HUB-Robeson Center with representatives explaining how to register, how to stay informed and active as a registered voter and a sign with the specific topics on the municipal election ballot.

The group hands out flyers with instructions on how out-of-state residents can register in Pennsylvania and stay active in the Penn State community.

On the Municipal Election ballot, registered voters can vote for officials including U.S. senators and representatives, Pennsylvania governor, lieutenant governor, general assembly, attorney general, auditor general and state treasurer. In an odd-numbered year, like 2023, county and city officials, judges and magisterial district judges are on the ballot, too.

A fourth-year majoring in education, Lilia Burns, although was aware and a registered Pennsylvania voter did not vote for the Nov. 7 election. However, in other cases, Burns usually visits the voting location to turn in her ballot.

Ella Biggs, a fourth-year majoring in education, did not vote for the Nov. 7 election because she is not a registered Pennsylvania voter, but registered in her home state Georgia, where she usually mails in ballots.

For both students, PSU Votes approached them as they entered the HUB by handing them a flier and quickly informed them about the Municipal Elections.
