Penn State’s Final Push to Finish Undefeated

By Lauren Harth

The Penn State Nittany Lions will first face off against No. 19 Indiana on Thursday at 7 p.m. in their Pink Night matchup.

No. 4 Penn State women’s soccer just finished the last regular season road series this past weekend facing off against Purdue and Northwestern.

At Purdue, a frustrating scoreless 0-0 tie game, and against Northwestern another tie 2-2.

Against Purdue, the Nittany Lions dominated every aspect but unfortunately walked away without a score.

Penn State had 22 shots compared to Purdue’s eight. Kaitlyn MacBean set a career-high with six total shot attempts.

Katherine Asman stood strong in the goal with four saves to keep it at a total shutout.

When facing Northwestern, it was a different story for the Nittany Lions.

In the 23rd minute, Eva Alonso left the game with a red card forcing the Nittany Lions to play down a player for the remaining 65 minutes.

Penn State only managed to have four shots. Their two shots that found the back of the net also were the Nittany Lions’ only two shots on goal.

Asman had one of her most dominant games with 11 saves to help keep Penn State in the game.

Penn State will look to put these two ties and not strongest gameplay behind them as they look to their last two games of the regular season.

This will be a pivotal game for both teams as Penn State sits at 5-0-3 in conference play and Indiana sits at 5-1-2. The result of this game will determine who earns the number one seed for the Big Ten Tournament.

Penn State is averaging 15.4 shots per game and Indiana averages 16.4 shots per game. Fans can expect to see an offensive battle to get as many shots off in an attempt to find the back of the net.

The Nittany Lions will look to not only continue their undefeated season but also to continue their undefeated streak against Indiana. Penn State leads head-to-head matchups against the Hoosiers 19-0-3.

The blue and white will then face off against the No. 21 Wisconsin Badgers on Sunday at 1 p.m.

When facing the Badgers, the Nittany Lions are 14-5-1 with a 6-1 record at home.

Wisconsin runs an efficient offense with 50% of their shots being on goal and 1.31 goals per game.

The Nittany Lions’ defense will need to keep a close watch on the Badger's leading goal scorer Emma Jaskaniec.

Jaskaniec leads the team with seven goals and four assists and will be a player the Badgers look to on Sunday.

Before facing the Nittany Lions Sunday, Wisconsin will make the trip to face the Maryland Terps Thursday.

Both games will test the Nittany Lions offensively and defensively. They will look for Asman to stand tall in the goal and lean on Macbean and Olivia Borgen to lead the offense to the back of the net.
