Penn State students use fall break to rest, recharge

Penn State students are just now coming back from their fall break, where many got together with family to relax and have large Thanksgiving feasts.
Cade Miller, a senior majoring in broadcast journalism, said he played pickleball and caught up with friends in his hometown. For him, fall break is a chance to disconnect from the constant classwork grind.
“Honestly, to reset, I turned off all of my notifications, from email to Canvas and even text messages. Sometimes I would put it on do not disturb,” Miller said. “I really procrastinated Thanksgiving break if you can do that — but I totally did.”
Penn State’s fall break around Thanksgiving is longer than many other universities because students don’t get days off in the middle of the semester.
Sophomore political science major Justine Buell said she also didn’t try to work ahead in her classes during the break, instead choosing to relax and have a mental reset before the last few weeks.
“I went to go see some extended family members who I haven’t seen in a couple of years, so that was really nice,” Buell said.
Now, Penn State students have two weeks of classes and one week of finals before their next break.
