
Penn State sports weekly recap
Penn State baseball traveled to Ray Fisher Stadium on Friday to face the Michigan Wolverines for the series opener. The Nittany Lions defeated the Wolverines 12-5, with home runs from Bryce Molinaro, Cole Wagner, and Ryan Weingartner.
The two teams met again the next day at Ray Fisher Stadium for the second game of the series. The Nittany Lions fell short of the Wolverines in a 7 to 8 loss.
Penn State achieved four runs in the fifth alongside one in the seventh to work their way back into the game but couldn’t clinch the victory. The Nittany Lions concluded the weekend with another close loss.
The Blue and White then fell short to Michigan 5 to 6 on Sunday afternoon to conclude the series. They are now 17-10 in the season and 6-6 in Big Ten Conference play.
The Nittany Lions will return home to Medlar Field at Lubrano Park on Tuesday, April 1, to host Bucknell in their annual Dollar Dog Night and Military Appreciation Night.
It was a huge weekend for men’s ice hockey as they put forth show-stopping performances on the ice. The No. 12 Nittany Lions began the weekend by upsetting No. 4 Maine Black Bears under the lights in the Allentown Regional Semifinal at the PPL Center.
In the 5 to 1 victory, the Nittany Lions saw two goals apiece from sophomores Matt DiMarsico and Dane Dowiak, as well as one from freshman JJ Wiebusch.
The Nittany Lions advanced to their second Regional Final in the past three years where they then faced the UConn Huskies on Sunday evening. The Nittany Lions defeated the UConn Huskies, 3-2, in an overtime win and earned a spot in the Frozen Four.
The Blue and White saw goals from Dane Dowiak, JJ Wiebusch and Matt DiMarsico. They look ahead to facing Boston University on Thursday night in St. Louis at the Enterprise Center.
