This weekend marks the first game for the seventh-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions football team. Penn State will host West Virginia University this Saturday night in their annual Helmet Stripe game.

Fans around campus are eagerly anticipating Saturday night and the season overall. Ethan Hu, a junior majoring in broadcast journalism, spoke about what he was most excited about this season.

“Honestly, I'm excited for the fans to come back including myself, and also the student section just to be hype and get loud for this weekend’s game against West Virginia,” he said. “It's a night game as well, so it’s like a mini whiteout theme, helmet stripe, and the atmosphere is just different. I'm excited for everything to come back.”

The team this season will look a little different after the departure of some key players like Sean Clifford and Joey Porter Jr., both of whom were drafted in the offseason. With this new roster, Wyatt Schaffer, a junior majoring in broadcast journalism, talked about his expectations for the new roster.

“I’m excited to just watch the defense play, because the past two years we’ve had really good secondary players drafted into the NFL, and then just watch the linebackers run around,” he said. “The defensive linemen are supposed to be even better than last year which is hard to believe so it’s just kind of exciting to get to watch that defense get on the field.”

All eyes will be on the Nittany Lions this weekend as they open up their season in primetime. Where will the seventh-ranked Nittany Lions season take them? Only time will tell.
