Penn State captain Christian Berger enters transfer portal

Penn State men’s hockey defenseman and team captain Christian Berger entered the transfer portal on Tuesday, according to GopherPuckLive.

The senior amassed two goals and six points in 30 games this past season, before suffering a season-ending wrist injury on Feb. 17 against the Michigan Wolverines.

Berger was named the 10th captain in program history before the start of the season, following in the footsteps of his brother Chase who was captain in 2018-2019.

Berger had a career year during his junior campaign, with a career-high five goals and 20 points, while adding 70 blocked shots as well.

Christian was one of three Berger brothers to play for head coach Guy Gadowsky, as Jack Berger played for Gadowsky at Princeton and the aforementioned Chase played in Hockey Valley.

The 6-foot defenseman finishes his Nittany Lion career with nine goals and 42 points in 129 games.

Berger is the second blueliner to enter the transfer portal, as Dylan Gratton transferred to Omaha on April 16.
