Penn State Blood Drive
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa – On Tuesday, Feb. 6, and Wednesday, Feb. 7, Penn State hosted blood drives to combat the nationwide blood shortage that has affected millions. Some people do not even know that we are amid a nationwide blood shortage, but this is a huge issue that should not be overlooked. Second-year Penn State student majoring in Psychology Athina Lambros shares her knowledge about the nationwide blood shortage.
“The nationwide blood shortage I know a lot about thanks to my kinesiology classes,” Lambros said. “I think it is because of Gen Z not wanting to donate blood and there has been a blood shortage because of that.”
Along with Gen Z not wanting to donate, these blood shortages are mainly occurring because of the extreme weather events that have happened recently. The events mainly include the hurricanes in Florida and along the East Coast. Now more than ever it is super imperative for people, who can, to donate to the cause. A third-year student majoring in Psychology, Destiny Bethea shares her reasoning for why donating is important.
“The reason you should donate blood is because it will help people who really need it and there are plenty of people in the hospital who need blood transfusions,” Bethea said.
Betha further added, “Donating blood can save up to three people’s lives.”
If you are a Penn State student who wants to donate to the cause, please call 1-800-RED-CROSS or visit RedCrossBlood.org and enter: PSU to schedule an appointment.
