Penn State adds another commitment to its 2024 class
The Penn State men’s soccer team added another commitment to its 2024 class, adding midfielder/defenseman Frankie Westfield.
Westfield has spent the last six years in the Philadelphia Union Academy, where he helped the squad win the 2022 U-17 MLS Next Cup.
The Chester, PA native made 25 appearances in 2023 for the Philadelphia Union II, starting 24 matches while scoring two goals and having one assist. Westfield was also stellar defensively, having 32 tackles, which ranked second on the squad, alongside 44 clearances, seven blocks and 30 interceptions.
Westfield also demonstrated excellent fitness, ranking second on the team in minutes played with 2,028.
Westfield was named the MLS NEXT Pro Rising Star of Matchday on August 7, 2023, for his performance against NYCFC II.
"We are delighted that Frankie decided to join us at Penn State. He has had a great deal of experience coming from the Philadelphia Union II team,” head coach Jeff Cook said in a press release. “Frankie is [a] tactically intelligent player with [a] fierce competitive drive. We are excited about the impact he can make on our program."
Westfield is expected to be arriving in Happy Valley this fall.
