Other Potential NHL Trade Targets Before Deadline

By Andrew Matz

It has been about a week since the Hurricanes shocked the world by trading for Mikko Rantanen. It was a massive change that could change the Hurricanes franchise for a long time. It is rare you see a player like Rantanen move.

With that said there has been tons of buzz around the league of other moves that we could potentially see happen. With the trade deadline set for Mar. 7, we could see some major players on the move.

Sidney Crosby

The Avs might not be done making moves yet. After trading Rantanen and acquiring Martin Necas and Jack Drury it has been rumored that the Avs could make a move for long-time Penguin could be on the move.

Crosby would be a great addition for the Avs who would add to the center depth that they already have. With that said most of the rumors have come from fan-buzz, but if Crosby wants to get one more cup a move to the Avs could achieve that for him.

J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson

The Vancouver Canucks have decided that they need to move on from either J.T. Miller or Elias Pettersson. The question is which one will it be? I think that it should be obvious who they move on from. Miller is much older than Pettersson but is making much less than Pettersson.

With that said Pettersson has been your best player for a good amount of time and I don’t think they should move on from him. Pettersson has had a down year this year but he has a much higher upside than Miller.

If the Canucks were to trade Pettersson there are some positives. One they would say cap room then trading Miller because Pettersson makes 11.6 million and they would get way more value for Pettersson.

With that said the right move for the Canucks is to keep Pettersson and trade Miller.

Joel Farabee

Another player I could see getting traded is Joel Farabee. He has been someone the Flyers have been rumored to move for a while now and with the Flyers in their rebuild, we could see them finally move Farabee.

While he is a great player he has been overshadowed in the lineup by other players such as Owen Tippet, Travis Konecny and Sean Couturier. His value is not at its highest right now as he only has 19 points this season.

For a player who is making five million dollars, you would expect much higher production from him. The Flyers could look to finally move on from Farabee and make an add that will help them down the road. Plenty of prospects could come up and fill Farabee’s role for the Flyers.

We are still over a month away from the trade deadline and many more names could become available.

The Rantanen trade was the first of many big trades that we could see happen.

This will be one of the most active deadlines we have seen in a while, with all the names that have been reported to be available so far.
