"No One Will Save You" Movie Review
“No One Will Save You” is a sci-fi suspense movie recently released on Sept. 22 exclusively on Hulu.
In a year that has already had many successful horror movies, “No One Will Save You” garnered a lot of hype as the next scariest movie of 2023 following the release of the trailer on Sept. 5.
It follows the story of Brynn, who is introduced as a loner and lives in solitude away from the townspeople.
At night, Brynn’s home is invaded and she is attacked by what we find out is an alien-like creature. The alien is revealed to have telekinetic powers and some control over electrical appliances such as her refrigerator, phone and car.
Brynn defeats the alien and travels into the town when she realizes that everyone in the town is under the control of these creatures. The aliens take a fascination in Brynn, partially due to her interest in her resilience, but mostly due to frustration as they try to take her over as they did the rest of the town.
Brynn then spends the rest of the movie attempting to defend herself against the aliens, while battling her internal demons.
The main takeaway from this film is that there is no dialogue. You read that right. There was not one line of speech uttered by any of the characters.
Instead, the movie focused on its stunning visuals and strong acting by its lead actress Kaitlyn Dever to create a plot.
This movie is going to be incredibly polarizing and divisive. Some people may find this new concept fascinating, while others may find it boring.
The movie oftentimes was moving very slowly and some may find themselves occasionally zoning out throughout the movie.
For a movie that was promoted as horror, there wasn’t a single moment that was generally recognized as scary or unsettling. It was an interesting sci-fi movie with a unique directing style but failed to live up to the hype the trailer gave it as a horror movie.
The visuals were incredible and it wasn’t a boring plot by any means. Some people will love the movie and others would love to see more of a focus on visuals and emotion in cinema rather than dialogue.
The soundtrack of the movie, which was composed by Joseph Trapanese, might arguably be one of the best movie soundtracks of the year. The incredible soundtrack meshed perfectly with the aforementioned breathtaking visuals.
This movie had a lot of positives for the unusual directorial style it utilized. The reason it will be such a divisive movie is because most of it was so unengaging.
Many concepts of the movie were also not well explained until the final scenes, leaving the audience confused for most of the movie. For a movie without dialogue, that was not the best strategy for keeping the focus of the viewers.
Overall, this was a pretty forgettable movie. There wasn’t a moment aside from the opening alien attack scene that the movie truly captivated the audience’s attention.
