After defeating the No. 1-seeded Monmouth in the Colonial Athletic Association tournament, The Seawolves earned a spot in the tournament at the live selection show on Monday and will travel to Happy Valley this weekend for their first match of the NCAA Tournament.

The last time Penn State played Stony Brook was in the NCAA Tournament in 2019, The Nittany Lions came back to win 3-1 after conceding the first goal early in the match.

Devon Olive was the only Nittany Lion currently on the roster in that game, she recorded 11 minutes in the win.

Ginger Fontenot is the only other Nittany Lion with experience playing against Stony Brook. As a forward at Penn, Fontenot played for all 90 minutes in their 3-0 win over Stony Brook in Sept. 2022.

What Penn State did last season in the tournament?

Penn State was defeated by Clemson in the Quarterfinals last season after making a deep run behind wins against CCSU, No. 23 Santa Clara and No. 21 Saint Louis.

Kaitlyn MacBean scored the lone Penn State goal in that loss versus the Tigers, but a late goal from Caroline Conti knocked the Nittany Lions out of the tournament.

The winner of this match will face the winner of No. 5 seed TCU and Stephen F Austin (SFA). That game will be played on Friday at 8 p.m. Both teams will know the road ahead in advance of Saturday’s matchup.
