No. 10 Penn State (6-1) returns home to face its fifth conference opponent of the year after it suffered its first loss of 2023 to No. 3 Ohio State (7-0).

Here are all the notes that you will need to know before the Hoosiers and Nittany Lions face off.

Penn State

In its 20-12 loss over the Buckeyes in Week 8, the Nittany Lions were held to 240 total yards on offense, went 1-for-16 on third-down conversations and reached the red zone one time as they trailed 20-6 as time ticked away in the fourth quarter.

Drew Allar makes his first start in Beaver Stadium reeling from a loss against a conference opponent. The sophomore quarterback has notched out 1445 yards and 16 total touchdowns across his 6-1 start.

Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen have paired for one of the premier running back duos, however, were held to a season-low 74 rushing yards on Saturday. The pair were given the ball 18 times, with six carries in the second half where the run game faded from the playbook.

A Penn State receiver has yet to gain over 100 yards receiving since the season opener against West Virginia, KeAndre Lambert-Smith with 123 yards on four catches.

Manny Diaz has built this defense to stand against any unit as it held the No. 3 team in the country to 20 points and out of the end zone on multiple occasions.

The Nittany Lions defense has not allowed a first-drive touchdown in its last 21 games while they have forced 40 takeaways (21 interceptions, 19 fumbles) since the start of 2022.

Penn State’s defense ranks No. 1 in the Big Ten on third down defense, rushing defense, defensive sacks per game, total defense and turnover margin.

Indiana

The Hoosiers are on the hunt to end a three-game losing streak after a 44-17 loss to Maryland, a 52-7 defeat to No. 2 Michigan and a 31-14 home loss to Rutgers.

Indiana has averaged less than 18 points on offense and 311 total yards per game as it sits 2-5 on the season and 0-4 in the conference.

Tayven Jackson and Brendan Sorsby have split reps at the quarterback position, throwing for 1334 yards, five touchdowns and five interceptions in 2023.

The Hoosiers have run for 940 yards and eight touchdowns with Christian Turner and Jaylin Lucas taking the majority of the reps.

Aaron Casey has been a unit on the defensive side for Indiana as he has 59 total tackles, eight tackles for loss, three sacks and one forced fumble.

Louis Moore and Phillip Dunnam have generated five of the Hoosier’s six interceptions in the secondary throughout the year to make an elite combination downfield.

Matchup

Penn State and Indiana meet up for the 27th time in program histories with the first matchup coming in 1993.

The Nittany Lions are well in control of the series with a 24-2 record and an 8-2 record over the past 10 games since 2013. The blue and white are undefeated, 12-0, against the Hoosiers in Beaver Stadium.

The last time these two teams met was in Bloomington, Ind. in 2022 when Franklin led his squad to a 45-14 victory over Indiana. A Mike Yurcich offense threw for over 300 yards, 179 yards on the ground and scored six touchdowns, three of those owned to Kaytron Allen.

Gameday

Penn State’s Military Appreciation game will kick off at noon as the Nittany Lions look to end October on a high note and grab Beaver Stadium’s 315th win in history.
