NHL Game of the Week: Bruins vs. Rangers
New York Rangers (1st in Metro, 45-20-4)
The Metro leaders are coming off of a 4-2 loss to the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday night, where Alex Wennberg scored in his 700th game and Alexis Lafreniere.
The Rangers are tied with the Florida Panthers for league leader in points, who they lost to two weeks ago.
The Rangers are looking to bounce back from that loss by taking on an even tougher opponent in the Bruins.
Fan-favorite Matt Rempe will most likely return from his suspension tonight after sitting as a healthy scratch on Tuesday, but defenseman Ryan Lindgren will be out with a lower-body injury.
Both Igor Shesterkin and Jonathan Quick have been stellar in net, and since Shesterkin started last game, Quick will probably be in goal tonight.
Deadline acquisition Jack Roslovic has been added to the first “Kreibanejad” line, where the Rangers have finally found a winger to play with the two. The Artemi Panarin-Vincent Trocheck-Lafreniere line has been rolling.
Chad Ruhwedel and Zac Jones have stepped up in Lindgren and Jacob Trouba’s absence and K’Andre Miller has been thriving with having Braden Schneider as a defensive partner.
Overall, the Rangers are a wagon.
Boston Bruins (1st in Atlantic, 41-14-15)
The Bruins enter this one winner of five of their last six games and most recently defeated the Ottawa Senators by a score of 6-2 on Tuesday.
Hart Trophy candidate David Pasternak registered a hat trick during Tuesday's matchup and has carried the load, leading the black and gold in goals (44), assists (55) and points (99).
Brad Marchand has supplemented the scoring, having an impressive 27-goal and 34-assist campaign, while Charlie Coyle and Pavel Zacha have filled the void at the dot left by the retirement of Patrice Bergeron.
On defense, Charlie McAvoy anchors the unit. MacAvoy plays a terrific two-way game, leading the defensive core in scoring nine goals and 33 assists while leading the team with 125 blocks.
Look for the 26-year-old to make an impact, especially on the man advantage where he has 12 apples.
Between the pipes, it has been a two-goalie show, with reigning Vezina Trophy-winner Lunus Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman splitting time in the crease.
Swayman will likely start this one. The Alaska native has been stellar, posting a 2.56 goals-against average and .917 save percentage, along with three shutouts.
The puck is set to drop at 7 p.m.
