Eagles Tush Push

NFL Game of the Week: Eagles vs. Jets

By Michael Landis

Is this the week for history to finally be broken? Or will one of the only two undefeated teams in the league look to continue their dazzling season?

The Philadelphia Eagles will travel to MetLife Stadium to take on the New York Jets, looking to continue their historical (12-0) all-time record against the team.

The Overview

While the Jets seemed to be a struggling team in the first few weeks of the season, they have picked it up quickly in their last two games with sparks from Zach Wilson, Breece Hall and the offense.

The Jets’ defense has continued their superb performance from last season and looks like a top 5 defense again this season.

On the other side, the Eagles have looked excellent to start their undefeated season. Recently acquired D’Andre Swift is dominating the run game averaging 5.7 yards per carry this season.

While the Eagles have not looked as explosive in the passing game as they did last year, Jalen Hurts and the company have been rolling.

Can you stop the run?

After a season-ending injury last year, Breece Hall is back better than ever averaging 7.2 yards per carry, and is leading this Jets offense.

It will be interesting to see if the Jets’ offensive line can stand their ground as they’ve had their struggles and injuries this season.

However, Hurts will use his legs to torment a Jets team that has struggled immensely against mobile quarterbacks.

Additionally, the Jets must be able to stop the Eagles’ Iconic “Tush Push” that they have executed incredibly well on third-and-short or fourth-and-short situations this season.

Keys to win the game

The biggest key for the Jets to win this game is to keep Hurts contained and not allow him to escape the pocket.

The Jets’ defensive line led by Quinnen Williams and Jermaine Johnson has to keep up the same electric energy and get some pressure on Hurts.

On offense, the Jets need to look to get the run game going early and to use play-action calls to open up the field for Wilson to have time to find some of his top targets in Garrett Wilson and Tyler Conklin.

The biggest key for the Eagles to win the game is to stop the running game for the Jets and to try and force them to throw the ball more.

The Eagles' defense will need players to step up like Haason Redick and James Bradberry as they will be missing two of their top defensive players Jalen Carter and Darius Slay this weekend.

On offense, Hurts needs to get the ball to his playmakers AJ Brown and Devonta Smith and let them do the rest.

Expectations

You can expect this to be a very defensive battle as the Eagles have only scored 24.3 points per game on the road this season while the Jets have only allowed 18 points per game at home.

The talent on both sides is impeccable, but this will be a very gritty game determined by which team wins more of their battles in the trenches.
