NFL fantasy football outlook: Week 1
College football is back. Professional football is back. But most importantly along with professional football, fantasy football is back!
Time to not only yell at your TV about your own team struggling every Sunday, but it’s time to yell at all of your players that are ready to go in your lineup.
Here are my biggest predictions for the best starts, must sit and boom players in the first week of the NFL season.
Best starts
Keon Coleman
The Bills' new first-round rookie WR is going to do some damage this week on a rebuilding Cardinals team and a depleted defense.
Josh Allen loves slinging the ball and with Coleman having the opportunity to become one of the top targets in this offense, you can expect him to get targeted a lot this week.
Tank Dell
Before suffering a brutal season-ending leg injury in Week 13 last season, Tank Dell is ready to pick up where he left off in his impressive rookie season.
While the Texans do also have breakout wide receiver Nico Collins and newly acquired star Stefon Diggs, Dell should get his fair share of targets against a Colts team that he put up over 20 points against when he played them last year.
Jameson Williams
Jameson Williams breakout season. Jameson Williams breakout season. Jameson Williams breakout season. I know we say it every year, but THIS is the year that Williams will truly show his potential.
In a Lions offense that is absolutely stacked with weapons and a top-five offensive line in the league, Williams is finally adjusted and healthy to the NFL and he will make the most of his opportunity.
The speedster finally broke through in the playoffs and will get the chance once again in a rematch against the Los Angeles Rams, making him a solid flex option this week.
Must sits
Brian Robinson Jr.
While Robinson appears to be the RB 1 in Washington, with the addition of Austin Ekeler this offseason, it’s hard to know what the usage of both running backs is going to look like.
Additionally, the Commanders are going up against a stout defense in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and for rookie QB Jayden Daniels in his first career game, this could be a tough day on the offense.
DK Metcalf
Metcalf has continued to produce year after year for the Seahawks and while he should normally be a starter, this week may be a little more difficult given Pat Surtain II covering him and Tyler Lockett and Jaxon Smith-Njigba being options.
Tony Pollard
After a disappointing season last year where Pollard had the opportunity to be the RB 1 and get most of the goal line work in Dallas, he now goes over to Tennessee where there may be no Derrick Henry, but Tyjae Spears is ready to rumble.
I think that it’s a tough situation where it’s too hard to know what each of their workloads will look like and based on Pollard's time as an RB 1 last season, it’s too hard to put him as a starter in Week 1 against a strengthened Bears defense.
Boom of the week
Tyreek Hill
While Hill may just seem like the obvious pick, finishing as one of the top players in all of fantasy football last season, his matchup in Week 1 is why he’s going to go off.
A healthy Dolphins team matched up at home against a weaker Jaguars secondary could mean a very successful week.
