NFL Divisional round betting
It is time for the NFL Divisional Round. Playoff football is where coaching, defense, and rushing attacks become the most vital for game planning. With two cold weather northeast games, looking at the weather app may be the difference between cashing in or losing out.
The following article contains information that is not representative of the opinions of CommRadio. It solely expresses the opinions of Antonio Fondacaro.
1. Ravens ML (-118)
The Baltimore Ravens and Buffalo Bills will play each other close in a windy, chilly Highmark Stadium.
The game in Buffalo is expected to be played in frigid conditions, with temperatures at 12 degrees and a wind chill of -2.
The Ravens have built significant momentum with consecutive wins, highlighting their resilience and adaptability in high-pressure situations this season.
Quarterback Lamar Jackson's dual-threat capability adds a challenging dimension for The Buffalo Bills. His ability to make plays with both his arm and legs keeps defenses guessing.
Key WR Zay Flowers is still questionable up to this moment, but I believe Lamar is going to look to his tight ends more in this matchup anyway.
The Ravens' defense has been formidable, Led by a stout pass rush and elite linebackers. Baltimore boasts the top rushing defense in the league with an average of 3.6 YPC. The Bills ran nickel coverage on over 90% of snaps this season, this creates a favorable matchup up front for the Ravens.
On the flip side, Josh Allen’s arm has a history of showing up, especially in poor-weather matchups. Allen’s size and throwing power will allow him to zip the ball through the heavy wind with little struggle.
This game will be won in the trenches on both sides of the football. Both squads have strong offensive and defensive fronts. Keep an eye out for key matchups such as Kyle Van Noy vs Dion Dawkins, Van Noy got past the Bills' tackle twice for two sacks in their previous matchup.
Cold weather often hampers passing attacks, placing greater emphasis on the running game. The Ravens excel in this area, leading the league in rushing yards off the backs of Lamarr Jackson and Derrick Henry. (look out for Justice Hill too, he’s an underrated blocker)
What should be hammered into your head by now is the cold windy weather will be the key factor in this game. If it’s close, the longer the game progresses the Ravens’ heavy formations and versatile run game will wear down the Bills and slowly gain the advantage.
2. Rams vs. Eagles Under (43.5)
The matchup between the Los Angeles Rams and the Philadelphia Eagles is shaping up to be a defensive battle, with several factors pointing toward a game that could stay under 43.5 points.
You thought the other game had choppy weather? Philly is projected to get anywhere from 1-4 inches of snow on Sunday. I’m expecting sloppy offensive play from both teams.
The Ram’s defense has been playing their best ball since early December. While their previous matchup with the Eagles was a 37-20 shootout, both teams have adapted in many ways.
The Rams have had a ton of roster turnover in the last few seasons, so this team is very young and quickly adapting to the speed of the NFL.
The Eagles have a strong defensive front that excels at pressuring quarterbacks and stopping the run. Jordan Davis, Jalen Carter, Nolan Smith Jr., and Josh Sweat lead one of the best defensive lines in the entire NFL with an elite linebacking core behind it.
Both teams have faced challenges on offense, including injuries and fluctuations at the quarterback position, potentially limiting their scoring capabilities.
Snow can disrupt timing routes and make the football slippery, leading to a reliance on the running game and shorter plays.
The combination of strong defenses and adverse weather conditions makes the under 43.5 points an attractive bet. Expect a hard-fought game with both teams prioritizing ball control and field position.
3. Lions vs. Commanders Over (55.5)
The Detroit Lions and the Washington Commanders are set to face off in a game that has the potential to be an offensive showcase.
The Lions have a potent offense with playmakers who can score from anywhere on the field. Their aggressive play-calling from coach Dan Campbell often leads to high-scoring games.
Despite previous struggles, the Commanders seem to have struck gold with their young QB and are looking to let a hot season burn even brighter.
Off the bat, both teams have had deficiencies on the defensive side of the football. Detroit’s questionable DB play and inconsistent pass rush without a healthy Aiden Hutchenson allows Washington QB Jayden Daniels some time to throw.
Speaking of quarterbacks, both offensive systems should create an intriguing duel between offenses that prefer an up-tempo pace, increasing the number of possessions and scoring opportunities. Daniel’s recent connection with Terry Mclauren is also peaking at the right time.
Given the natural offensive strengths and defensive vulnerabilities, the over 55.5 points is a compelling option. This game could and should turn into a shootout, any line under 60 points is a bargain to me.
Final Thoughts
This NFL Divisional Round presents diverse betting opportunities:
Ravens Moneyline: Favored due to their strong running game and adaptability to cold weather via Derrick Henry.
Rams vs. Eagles Under (43.5): Heavy snow and strong defenses may limit scoring, making the Under a prudent choice.
Lions vs. Commanders Over (55.5): Offensive firepower and defensive lapses point toward a high-scoring affair.
As always, it's essential to consider all factors, including team form, weather conditions, and player availability, before placing your bets. Good luck and enjoy the thrilling playoff action!
