NFL betting: Week 2
The following article contains information that is not representative of the opinions of CommRadio. It solely expresses the opinions of Carson Schuler.
Looking at the slate of games set for week two, I am intrigued by how many heavy favorites Vegas has for some of these games, especially for the first slate of games on Sunday, and even the primetime games too.
In the first set of games, the Cowboys, Lions, Ravens and 49ers are all over -200 favorites to win. According to a betting odds to probability calculator and the live Fanduel odds listed on Thursday night, Fanduel has the Cowboys at a 73.7% chance to win versus the Saints (-280 odds).
The Lions have a win probability of 76.7% over the Buccaneers (-330 odds), while the 49ers have a 70.1% chance to beat the Vikings (-235 odds).
The most lopsided game of the entire slate is the Ravens versus Raiders, which the books have set at -500 on Baltimore’s moneyline, which correlates to the Ravens having an 83.3% probability to win.
Do what you will with that information, but be aware that the biggest underdogs of week one, The New England Patriots got the victory against the Bengals at over +300 odds.
I am going to stay away from betting money lines this week, And my picks are probably going to seem unconventional, but I like to have fun and root for weird things to happen with my bets.
Obviously, we’d all like to make money consistently betting, but for most of us, that is really not realistic or achievable, so I'm just going to try to have fun with my bets this week, and maybe make some money too.
Pick No.1: Brandon Aubrey over kicking points.
Aubrey was one of the best kickers last season going 36-38 and is 4-4 this season with two 50+ yard field goals already just in week one.
The lines for most player props aren't going to be available until Sunday morning, so you will have to watch out for where they set the line, but the Cowboys' offense was effective last season moving the ball, while the Saints' defense also was in the top tier in terms of yards allowed per game.
I can easily foresee this game starting slow, and with both teams struggling to move the ball offensively, hence the kicker pick.
Depending on where the line for total kicker points is set, the odds on the bet should be somewhere between even money (+100 or longer) and -180. I'll be taking over regardless of the odds. Do not take this as gambling advice, and if you have a problem, Call the number at the bottom of the article.
Pick No. 2: Sam Darnold to throw an interception: Yes
I think the 49ers will get out to a quick start against the Vikings, forcing Darnold to throw the ball more, and the 49ers' defense is one of the best in the NFL, so this might be a sweat, but at -146 odds, I like this play enough to include as one of my three picks for this week.
Pick No. 3: Touchdown parlay
David Montgomery, JK Dobbins and Zay Flowers Anytime Touchdowns
We just need three players to reach the end zone for glory, three legs and total odds of +1000, which means that if you bet 10 dollars, you’ll win 100.
Montgomery will be splitting reps with Jahmyr Gibbs, but both reached the end zone last week and with the Lions being big favorites, I'm taking Montgomery to get in the end zone.
Zay Flowers is the primary receiving target for the Ravens, and I think the Raiders will be focused on stopping the run, so we’re taking Flowers here for a touchdown.
Last but not least, JK Dobbins.
Coming off a season-ending injury last year, he showed up in a big way in week one (, with a matchup versus the Panthers, and a new run-heavy offense, this pick is the easiest for me to make out of the three, +155 odds for this single leg feels like a good bet to make straight, but I'm only doing this parlay.
