NCAA Week 8 Betting
The following article contains information that is not representative of the opinions of CommRadio. It solely expresses the opinions of Ethan Bell.
We are officially entering week eight of the college football season. As the season progresses, we tend to get better slates. This week, there is no exception as there are many juicy matchups to bet on to win some serious cash.
These lines are courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook and are subject to change.
No. 7 Penn State (+4) at No. 3 Ohio State
This game has already moved a half of a point since it opened at 4.5. There is legitimately no way that this game is decided by more than a late field goal
Both teams play a very similar style of football. The Buckeyes and Nittany Lions rely heavily on their defenses to win games. On offense, they want to control the ground game to set up the passing attack.
Friskier bettors will say Penn State moneyline straight up, but the Nittany Lions have struggled in Columbus recently. The last time they won at Ohio State was in 2011.
The blue and white covering the spread is one of my favorite bets of the week on the college football slate.
Wisconsin (-2.5) at Illinois
At a line of 2.5, the game is basically just a “pick ‘em.” This spread is not larger because Wisconsin struggled last weekend against Iowa in a game that would seemingly decide who would come out of the Big Ten West this season.
On the flip side, the Fighting Illini come into this game after a shocking win against Maryland in College Park.
I still think that Wisconsin is the superior team even with the loss of quarterback Tanner Mordecai. Head coach Luke Fickell will figure out how to get his offense going and the red and white will be fine.
Expect a bounce-back performance from the Badgers offensively this week against the Fighting Illini.
Navy (+11) against No. 22 Air Force
This is a rivalry game between two of the toughest football programs in the country and with it brings a grinding game that takes football back 50 years.
The games between the military academies always feature tough runs and no air attacks by both sides.
The Falcons are still undefeated and they continue to play for a New Year's Six Bowl game berth. While on the other hand, the Midshipmen would want nothing more than to ruin their rival’s Cinderella season.
The Naval Academy has one of the better ball carriers in the country. Fullback Alex Tecza currently leads the nation in yards per carry with 8.11.
I do not know if the Midshipmen will win, but they will compete and fight hard until the end.
No. 17 Tennessee (+9) at No. 11 Alabama
Last season, this game became an instant classic in Knoxville when the Volunteers upset the Crimson Tide. There was no shortage of points scored in that matchup.
This year, both teams have different quarterbacks as last year's signal callers, Bryce Young and Hendon Hooker are now in the NFL. Hooker’s successor, Joe Milton will need to step up like Hooker did last year if Tennessee wants to win, and I think he will.
Alabama has not looked like the wagon that they have been in years past. Last week, the Crimson Tide only won by three against a bad Arkansas team.
Nick Saban needs to have his team ready to play in this rivalry matchup against Tennessee, but Tennessee has looked better so far this season.
