NBA Game of the Week: Sacramento Kings vs. Golden State Warriors
The Golden State Warriors are set to return to the Chase Center to face the Sacramento Kings after going 3-0 on the road to start the season.
The Kings look to even the regular season series as the Warriors handed them their first loss of the season 122-114 last Friday and to potentially settle the score from last year as well
The Warriors beat Sacramento 4-3 in the Western Conference First Round in which Stephen Curry went off for 50 points to seal the victory for Golden State.
Back to the current schedule, Curry looked unstoppable against the Kings in their last match-up this season, going for a game-high 41 points on 70% shooting from deep.
He’s started off extremely hot with two 40-point games in his first four games of the season and he’ll be looking to continue this level of play against Sacramento once again.
Fans also got to see how effective Chris Paul could be playing alongside two of the most talented shooters in the history of basketball as he tallied up 12 assists against the Kings.
The Kings unfortunately have to face a hot Warriors team without star point guard De’Aaron Fox who suffered a moderately sprained ankle late in the fourth quarter in an overtime win against the Los Angeles Lakers. In his last game against the Warriors, he went head-to-head with Curry dropping 39 points and two steals.
The offense is going to be run presumably through All-Star power forward Domantas Sabonis who is averaging 17.7 points and a league-leading 15 rebounds and guard Malik Monk who had an impressive showing against the Lakers dropping 22 points on 44% from deep.
Despite Fox being out for tomorrow night, the Kings still have valuable starters and rotational pieces who can provide offense to match the Warriors. Forwards Keegan Murray and Harrison Barnes will also have increased roles in shot creation and floor spacing which will benefit Sacramento greatly.
In addition, guard Davion Mitchell will most likely receive more minutes to limit the impact of Curry and attempt to keep him from being as effective as he was last Friday.
Murray is one of the league's premier deep ball threats despite his young age as he shot 4% from deep his first year in the league and he’ll only be looked at more this game with Fox sidelined.
Although the Kings are facing some minor injuries in Fox, the same can be said for the Warriors who could potentially be without forward Jonathan Kuminga and All-Star guard Klay Thompson who both missed last night’s game against the Pelicans with minor knee injuries.
The Dubs will heavily rely on Curry to be the head of the offense but also on Paul to step in and potentially be inserted into the starting lineup and for guard Moses Moody to be ready after dropping 13 points on 62% shooting in a win against the Pelicans.
