NBA Game of the Week: Golden State Warriors vs. Boston Celtics
The NBA season is officially underway, and we already have a great matchup on our hands early on.
The Golden State Warriors will be traveling to Boston to take on the Celtics at TD Garden.
Both teams are coming in hot early with win streaks.
The Warriors extended their win streak to four last night against the Washington Wizards.
The Celtics were able to capture their third win in a row against the Atlanta Hawks.
Boston is 4-6 in their last ten matchups vs. Golden State, but the Celtics got the upper hand last time these teams played 140-88.
Looking into the Celtics, they are starting off their title defense strong with a 7-1 record.
Boston is led by numerous stars in the starting five. One of those dynamic players is Jayson Tatum.
Tatum has been off to a hot start so far. Averaging 30.0 points per game which ranks fourth in the NBA.
Despite the success of Tatum, Celtics fans want to see Jaylen Brown return to form.
The 2024 finals MVP has had a rough start with shooting the ball, shooting 40.0% so far this season.
Despite the struggles, the defending champs have retained several key players from last season's championship run.
One of those key players is Kristaps Porzingis, who is currently out with a foot injury.
The former No. 4 pick in 2015 only started in four postseason games and played in a total of seven.
The Celtics will likely have to wait until December for his return, as they don’t want to rush him back.
Even with one of their star players unavailable, Boston has been able to maintain their success in the win column.
Heading over to the Warriors, they are also off to a hot start with a 6-1 record heading into Wednesday night.
After making the playoffs in back-to-back years, Golden State was unable to reach the dance last season.
Despite the disappointing season last year, they have started out strong out of the gate. Primarily the backcourt.
Stephen Curry continues to produce at age 36, and he is alongside Buddy Hield, who was acquired from the Philadelphia 76ers this offseason.
Hield is currently leading the team with 21.9 points per game. He is also making more than half of his buckets with a 51.4 field goal percentage.
Curry has also provided quality numbers to start the year, averaging 19.1 across four games so far with 6.5 assists per game.
Heading into this season, the Warriors and Celtics are ranked towards the bottom of the league when it comes to their average age. Both teams have an average age of 28.4, which ranks 25th and 26th in the NBA.
Overall, both teams are playing solid basketball to start the year. Being able to grab the momentum early in a season is crucial.
Will the Warriors be able to steal a win on the road against the defending champions? Tune in tonight at 8 p.m. on ESPN.
