Movin’ On 2024

By Isabel Sweet

This year was Movin’ On’s 49th annual music festival. The event occurred on Penn State’s Intramural (IM) Fields on Friday, April 26th, with the gates opening at 3:30 pm.

The festivities were abundant. Movin’ On partnered with on-campus organizations including the Student Programming Association (SPA), the Association of Residence Hall Students (ARHS), and University Park of Undergraduate Students (UPUA) as well as outside sponsors.

The campus organizations had merch giveaways, carnival games and even raffles (one being free tickets to the upcoming Luke Combs concert). EcoReps also participated in these activities by having games and prizes promoting sustainability practices during the festival.

As for the outside sponsors, Celsius had a booth where they gave out various flavors of Celsius drinks to all in attendance in addition to a raffle for a year's worth of Celsius products.

Another major sponsor was Pepsi Zero. They gave out free Pepsi products, provided charging stations, had a 360-degree photo booth and gave out glow bracelets to the first 7500 people that came to their booth.

The last of the stations included a Ferris wheel, a water bottle refill station, merchandise for the talent and Movin’ On and Snyder’s food trucks. Each of these was bustling with people throughout the event.

So, who played at this event? Great question!

Earlier this semester, Movin’ On held Battle of the Bands in which the winning team would become an opening act at the festival. This year’s winner was the Hot Fudge Yacht Club.

Their performance started just after the gates opened and they really got the crowd going. During their set, most people were listening while enjoying the different booths and giveaways.

Following the Hot Fudge Yacht Club was The 502s presented by the Student Programming Association (SPA). They were a very folksy band that got the crowd excited and moving.

Each member of the group got the chance to solo either vocally or instrumentally. The crowd favorite was Joe who played both the saxophone and the trumpet. As a whole, the band brought the good vibes.

Next to perform was Freddie Gibbs, an American rapper. His set brought some party energy and even a mosh pit! His Penn State fans were at the front and ready to dance.

The first headliner, Sexyy Red, was late to her set by about 20 minutes. Even though the crowd was getting antsy, they stayed and had a great time.

She really got the crowd jumping with her hits “SkeeYee,” “Get it Sexyy,” and “Hands On Your Knees.” However, due to her late start, the performance was stopped.

Sexyy and her backup dancers continued to dance to “Ain’t it Fun” by Paramore until they were escorted off and a portion of the crowd left with them.

Then, finally, Movin’ On started the preparation for Dayglow’s headlining concert.

Those who left definitely missed out because Dayglow was so much fun to watch. He was a very personal artist as he talked to the crowd between each song and even had little interactions with people in the pit.

He played a pretty long set including an unreleased song titled, “Every Little Thing I Say I Do” which releases May 3rd. Additionally, he teased his new album release following shortly after the single.

Overall, this year’s Movin’ On music festival was a hit!
