2023 was a stellar year in movies. But, will 2024 be able to continue the momentum? Well, the CommRadio Arts & Entertainment department wrote about some movies to keep an eye out for this year.

“Deadpool 3”

Everyone’s favorite smart-mouthed anti-hero is set to return to the big screen this summer to finish one of the most successful comic book trilogies of all time.

This time, Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool will be joined by Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in what is said to be a swan song to the 20th Century Fox comic book film universe.

Other than that, the film's plot details have been kept tightly under wraps, but “Deadpool3” will surely be filled with the iconic dark humor, profanity and violence the previous iterations were known for.

It will likely be the last time Jackman dawns adamantium alloy claws, ending his impressive run with the character that began in 2000.

“Deadpool 3” has the potential to be the next great comic book movie, making it one of the most anticipated films of 2024. - Ben Palillo

“Kraven the Hunter”

With the flop train that Marvel has been riding recently, a lot of people are excited for “Kraven The Hunter.”

The film stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson (who has already been in the MCU) as the titular Kraven/Sergei Kravinoff, a hunter-warrior with animalistic powers.

The film also features Ariana DeBose as Calypso, a voodoo princess who also serves as Kraven’s love interest, and Russell Crowe as Nikolai Kravinoff, Kraven’s estranged father.

This is a Marvel film that doesn’t feature typical MCU characters or themes, and after the success of “Moon Knight,” which did the same thing, hopefully “Kraven the Hunter” will be a box office hit.

Additionally, Aaron Taylor-Johnson has been receiving a lot of critical acclaim since “Bullet Train,” so he’s expected to put on another big performance.

The film will be released in theaters on Aug. 30, 2024, and will most likely stream on Disney+ a few months after. - Adrianna Gallucci

“Challengers”

After experiencing some frustrating delays, “Challengers” will finally be released on April 26 of this year.

“Challengers” is the newest addition to the TCU (Tennis Cinematic Universe), and stars Zendaya as hot shot tennis player, Tashi Donaldson.

Tashi catches the eye of two fellow tennis players, Art (Mike Faist) and Patrick (Josh O’Connor), and a juicy love triangle commences.

With Luca Guadagnino directing, “Challengers” will definitely be an emotional ride for the audience that goes beyond the game of tennis.

Tennis is a deeply mental sport since there’s no team to support the player, and it looks like that pressure is going to build for the characters.

Based on the first trailers, it seems Tashi will experience hardships on and off the court, making “Challengers” a must-watch film of 2024. - Kaitlyn Murphy

“The Fall Guy”

The upcoming action-comedy drama – based on a 1980s television series of the same name – is set to premiere in theaters on May 3, 2024. The film, directed by David Leitch, will star Ryan Gosling as Colt Seavers: a stuntman past his prime years who becomes a reluctant investigator in order to save his ex-girlfriend’s debut film after the lead star goes missing.

The cast features actress Emily Blunt, best known for her leading roles in “Edge of Tomorrow”, “A Quiet Place” and “The Devil Wears Prada”, Winston Duke, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Hannah Waddingham, Stephanie Hsu and Teresa Palmer. Lee Majors, who starred as Seavers in the original television series produced by Glen A. Larson, will also appear in the 2024 film.

The film, written by Drew Pearce, follows aged stuntman Colt Seavers (Ryan Gosling) as he returns to the entertainment world as a stuntman for movie director, ex-girlfriend Jody Moreno (Emily Blunt).

When the film’s lead star goes missing and Moreno’s film is threatened to be shut down, Seavers volunteers to track down the missing lead and, in the process, win back Moreno’s heart. What could go wrong?

With amazing leads, a $125 million budget and a funky plot, this celebrity-stacked action-comedy is sure to make a splash in 2024. - Sarah Taylor

“Bob Marley: One Love”

This film has been eagerly awaited since the announcement of its release. Lovers of Bob Marley are excited to see how director Reinaldo Marcus Green will bring the music artist’s story to life in this biopic.

Kingsley Ben-Adir looks exceptionally promising in his starring role as Marley. Trailers reveal Ben-Adir will no doubt impress viewers with his singing abilities, arguably the most exhilarating aspect of the film. Alongside Ben-Adir is a cast of other accomplished and British actors.

The film fortunately seems to align with the message Marley tried to spread with his songs; one of peace and love in a time of violence. A hopeful theme that, with Green’s direction, will expectantly leave viewers with an emotional punch.

One month will surely feel too long without this propitious Bob Marley film in the world. -Cassie Baylis
