Most anticipated movies in 2025

“A Minecraft Movie”
As a classic video game that has been around for over a decade, Minecraft has finally received a movie adaptation. Called “A Minecraft Movie,” it is planned to release on April 4, 2025, with an ensemble cast that stars Jack Black, Jason Momoa, Emma Myers and many more.
The story follows four travelers who get pulled through a mysterious portal to a different world, a cubic dimension where the possibilities of adventure and imagination are endless.
Unfortunately, popular opinion critiques the visual effects and CGI style the film uses. However, with unique animation and set design, this film will be like nothing the box office has ever seen before.
Additionally, this is the first time that Minecraft has expanded on its canon lore since the creation of the game. While they have used a more animated approach to storytelling in the past with “Minecraft: Story Mode,” the movie opts for a blend of 3D effects and live-action characters, effectively balancing both mediums.

“Wicked: For Good”
The book turned Broadway musical turned movie musical has taken the world by storm this past year. Everything about “Wicked” part one was perfect.
“Wicked: For Good” follows Act Two of the Broadway show and releases on Nov. 21, 2025. Some may say that a year is way too long of a wait, but at least it’s something to look forward to.
The casting for “Wicked” couldn’t have been better. Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo were perfect as Glinda and Elphaba, so it is exciting to know they will be back on the big screen later this year in “Wicked: For Good.”
Audiences already know that this movie is going to be gorgeous. Between the soundtrack, costumes, set design, cinematography and everything in between of “Wicked” Part 1, we know we can expect another amazing film in Part 2.
After “Wicked” became available to purchase on Amazon Prime with bonus content, some fans were saddened by the loss of some beautiful deleted scenes.
With this feedback, it’s interesting to think of what they might change going into “Wicked: For Good.” Granted, the movie is probably completely finished, but it’s still something to think about.
The hype for part one of “Wicked” might die down eventually, but it’ll feel like deja vu in November when “Wicked: For Good” comes out. At least the world knows it has something amazing to look forward to. -Sarah Gavlak

“Captain America: Brave New World”
Cap is back on Feb. 14, 2025.
“Captain America: Brave New World” picks up where “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier” leaves off, with Sam Wilson, the Falcon, picking up the Captain America moniker. President Thaddeus Ross, played by Harrison Ford, needs Wilson’s help to stop an international incident from endangering the lives of American citizens.
Alongside Wilson, MCU returners include Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres, Tim Blake Nelson as Samuel Sterns, Liv Tyler as Betty Ross and Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley.
Additionally, WWE superstar Seth “Freakin’” Rollins is also to appear in the movie on the side of the bad guys.
Sebastian Stan is not credited for his role of Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier, but he could be in an end-credit scene to set up “Thunderbolts,” the next installment in the Marvel saga.

“Superman”
Look up.
The tagline for James Gunn’s 2025 adaptation of “Superman” says so much in only two words.
Arguably the most famous superhero of all time, Superman has been adapted in live action over 10 times in the past 80 years, including both television and film appearances.
Based on the first trailer, Gunn’s approach to the son of Krypton seems to be lighter and more heartening than previous directors like Zack Snyder, whose 2013 “Man of Steel” received criticism for the bland romance and darker tone that didn’t match the character.
Superman should be treated as a symbol of hope and honor that serves the people of Metropolis, and the trailer supports this by showing him saving multiple civilians, including children calling out his name.
“Twisters” and “The Politician” star David Corenswet is donning the traditional red cape and bright blue suit for “Superman,” connecting the character back to the original comic designs that fans fell in love with.
Co-starring Rachel Brosnahan as the intrepid Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Superman’s arch-nemesis Lex Luthor, “Superman” has the potential to be one of the biggest releases of the year. -Kaitlyn Murphy
