Over the past couple of years, my music taste has drastically shifted from hip hop and rap to yacht rock, folk music, and even Spanish reggaetón.

“CASUALIDAD” by Mora was my top song this year, which I mostly streamed back in April. This Puertorican Reggaetón artist was my top artist last year and my second most streamed artist this year.

His production and lyricism are fascinating; no matter how you feel, he has a song that will fit the vibe. I was in the top 0.001% of listeners globally for “CASUALIDAD,” streaming it 135 times.

However, the folk-rock band “The Avett Brothers” was my top artist in 2024. They released a self-titled album in May and saw them in concert on the day of its release in Forest Hills, NY. This was my favorite album of the year, and I would argue that it rivals their 2016 release, “True Sadness.”

As the year progressed, I switched from reggaetón and folk-rock to rock and roll classics like Dire Straits and Steely Dan, which I consumed most of the summer. These oldies but goodies will likely carry me into 2025. - Matthew Peters
