The Penn State women’s hockey team is already garnering conference recognition one week into the 2024-25 season.

Katie DeSa is the first player on the team to be named for a weekly award this season. The junior netminder from Pawcatuck, Connecticut was awarded the Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) Goaltender of the Week after her strong performance against the No. 13 Northeastern Huskies last weekend.

This is DeSa’s second weekly award throughout her college career, with the first coming back in February after a series win against Mercyhurst.

She was also named College Hockey America, now AHA, Goaltender of the Month with a 5-1-2 record throughout the month of February last season.

Throughout the first two games of the season, DeSa has proven to be a strong player between the pipes.

She’s allowed three goals while facing 35 shots throughout the series against Northeastern and currently sits at a .914 save percentage with a 1.51 goals-against average.

In her career, DeSa accumulated 11 total wins, sitting pretty with a .925 save percentage and 1.57 goals-against average.

Penn State is set to return to action this week with a two-game series against the No. 9 University of Connecticut Huskies starting on Friday, Oct. 4 at 3 p.m. EST.
