Is Now The Start Of The Eagles Dynasty

By Tristan Kunec

The Eagles are now starting to get attention as one of the best teams in the league as they dismantled the back-to-back Super Bowl champion Chiefs.

This is arguably one of the best 53-man rosters the NFL has ever seen with under the radar players like Zack Baun and Milton Williams stepping up. Baun was a defensive player of the year candidate and Williams was one of the best supporting defensive tackles in the league.

There were also rookies who stepped to the plate in Cooper DeJean and Quinyon Mitchell, who paired to make one of the best corner duos in the league.

Saquon Barkley capped it all off by being the best offseason signing of the year and may go down as the biggest free agent signing the league will ever see.

Howie Roseman worked cap space magic to field a team that seemed impossible to have in the salary cap era.

The most dangerous part for the rest of the league is that most of the team is locked down for years to come and Jalen Hurts has proved that he just knows how to win games.

Why they could form a dynasty:

The key pieces of the offense are all signed for long term deals. Barkley has two more years, then Hurts, A.J. Brown and Devonta Smith’s extensions all kick in this ensuing season.

On the other side of the ball, they are loaded with young talent. Reed Blankenship, Jalen Carter, Nolan Smith, Jalyx Hunt, DeJean and Mitchell were all playing on rookie contracts and have time remaining on those contracts.

The only key pieces they could lose this season are Baun, Williams, Josh Sweat, Darius Slay, Brandon Graham and Mekhi Becton.

Roseman has shown his ability to hit on picks in recent years though with Hurts in the second in 2020. You could argue that he has hit on eight of his nine picks since 2021, with other contributors coming in later rounds.

Coaching is also a big piece of a dynasty. Starting from the top, Nick Sirianni. Like Hurts, he receives too much hate. He is a leader of men, and it showed this season.

Sirianni has the second most wins of any coach in his first four seasons. He has at least 10 wins in each of those seasons, playoff appearances in each of those seasons and two Super Bowl appearances in three years.

He likes to stir the pot, but at the end of the day players love playing for him and he has put aside offensive control for the betterment of the team for multiple years that led them to wins.

Defensively, Vic Fangio is one of the best coaches in the league. The bright side for the Eagles is he is in his 70’s and has no desire to search for another head coaching position.

Therefore, with the right money, he may be willing to stay in Philadelphia for the remainder of his career.

He took a bottom five defense and turned them into the top defense in the league with the help of defensive line coach Clint Hurt. Hurt led a line that got six sacks in the first four games to one of the top pressuring front four in the league.

There is so much continuity in favor of the Eagles for years to come, and with a quarterback and a coach who just knows how to win, it looks like it will always be sunny in Philadelphia for a while.

Why the Eagles won’t have a dynasty:

There is no continuity in the play calling. Hurts has been through five different schemes in five different years and is staring down the barrel of a new one in 2025-26 with Kellen Moore going to the Saints.

The talent in the NFC looks strong in the upcoming years. Jordan Love and the Packers seem to be one or two pieces from making a run every year and the Lions were the best team in the NFL despite their injuries.

Not to mention, if he continues the rate he is on, Jayden Daniels and the Commanders. There is a strong argument to be made that in two good off seasons they could be Super Bowl contenders.

Eventually, all these young guys that are performing are also going to have to be paid. They are probably already going to lose at least one, if not two of Sweat, Baun or Williams this offseason, there comes hard decisions down the line.

The cap will continue to rise through the years, but so will the price tags of some of these players like Barkley who will definitely make more than $12 million at his next contract.

They are also going to get the best of everyone from here on out. Not that every team doesn’t already give their best, but everyone wants to be that team that dethrones the king.

They are going to have a battle in every game they play and long seasons to come.

A dynasty is unlikely with the amount of blue chip talent that the Eagles had in this championship run, but liking the team and being close plays a role in payment and Roseman will look to take advantage of that factor.
