Invincible

"Invincible" Season 3 Episode 5 review

By Noah Vickery

Towards the start of the episode, Multi-Paul is attempting to break out of prison. He does this by repeatedly making duplicates of himself so that the room is crammed with multiples of him to the point where the prison door can no longer handle the pressure and bursts open.

While he puts in a good effort, Paul is eventually stopped by one of the guards.

Paul’s sister, Duli-Kate, stops by to inform him that she was hoping that Cecil would be able to help him out. After this stunt, however, he will be in jail for much longer.

Kate and Paul continue talking which is when some backstory on the two is revealed. After their father went crazy, they were taken by the government to be trained and studied. Kate leaves in a disagreement with Paul.

Back at the Grayson household, Debbie is serving pancakes for breakfast. Eve arrives at the door trying to act like nothing is going on, however, Oliver spills the truth that Eve stayed over last night. This leads to a humorous scene where Mark and Oliver kick each other under the table over and over again.

Mark explains to Debbie that he and Eve have been talking about moving in together. Debbie appears saddened by this but knows that he is an adult now.

Eve heads to the prison where she pitches the idea to them of hiring a superhero to be on call in case of emergencies.

It is at this point that Titan and Mr. Liu are having a conversation. Liu wants Titan to break Multi-Paul out of prison, but Titan refuses. Not happy to hear this, Liu threatens Titan’s daughter.

While Mark and Eve are hanging out, Debbie worriedly comes to tell Mark that Oliver has gone missing. This leaves Mark and Eve on a mission to find him and make sure he is safe. Thankfully, Oliver is simply skateboarding with some friends he has made.

Rex clearly has feelings for Rachel, as he has planned and cooked dinner for her. They share a nice meal together and it seems that the future looks bright for the two.

Back at the prison, Titan has arrived and requested a meeting with Machine Head. Titan explains to him that he has been unable to free Multi-Paul and that his daughter's life is at stake. Machine head further warns him that Mr. Liu is not one to play with and that his family's life is likely in danger.

Mark receives a call for his new job as protector of the jail, and when he arrives he is met with Titain attempting to break in. Titan convinces Mark that he is not looking to fight, and Mark hesitantly follows him to get his side of the story.

Titan tells Mark about The Order which is run by Mr. Liu, and the Liu can turn into a massive and powerful dragon. He pleads that Multi-Paul must be let free, but Mark refuses and says he is taking Titan to jail. Titan, however, manages to make an escape.

Liu is not waiting any longer, takes his dragon form and heads to the prison. Mark is once again called to the rescue, along with Eve.

An intense battle against the dragon ensues. The fight is now easy and much damage is being done to the prison. This damage allows prisoners to escape, including Paul.

Eve takes the job of stopping Paul, and while it seems she successfully did, a clone of himself slipped away.

The dragon sinks his teeth into Mark’s body, making the fight seem unwinnable. Machine head however got to Liu’s human body just in time, and finished him off, which in turn made the dragon disappear.

Mark and Eve make the decision that their relationship has been moving too fast and that now is not the best time to get an apartment together.

After eliminating Mr. Liu, Machine Head takes it upon himself to be the new leader of the order. Titan arrives asking that he still has control over his city, which Machine Head agrees to.

At the end of the episode, Kate realizes that Paul has escaped, and it is revealed that Mr. Liu’s body survived. Ending on these cliffhangers raises many questions as to what is going to happen next.

While this episode had some nice moments and an exciting fight scene, it was overall a little slow. It felt more like a transition into something bigger coming.
